Middle Years

YEAR 7

The Year 7s enjoyed a well-earned break over the recent school holidays. Term 1 was a busy term for the Year 7s; establishing themselves in a new and exciting environment; lockers, peers, friends, as well as Year 7 camp!

Year 7s have returned in term 2, more familiar and confident. They can now navigate themselves around the College to the classrooms, the COLA, the Library, the Office, the Theatre and the Orchard, to name a few.

In the Health component of Health and Physical Education, Term 1 focused on our Personal Identity. This was a fantastic unit to begin Year 7 with, as it provided the opportunity for the students to self-reflect as to who they are. During class we did a range of activities, group work and discussions, with students sharing their own ideas of how their personal identity has been shaped.

Below are a range of responses from students in 7F:

To me identity has taught me who I really am and to be proud to be me (William)

To me identity means who I am. It is what defines you and makes up your identity. I think some things that shape your identity are your family, friends, pets, and hobbies. I think it is anything that makes you who you are (Natalie)

To me identity means who you are and what you are like as person. Your likes and dislikes. Your religion and background. It can define who you are as a person (anonymous).

Identity is what makes me, me. It is who I am. Whether it is the sport I like, a hobby I have or something I like to do it makes up who I am (Rose).

My identity allows me to share my emotions and feelings with anyone I know (Lucy).

Identity means how you like to identify yourself. Who you are and where you came from (your heritage). It is who you think you are as a whole and what you tell people about yourself. It is the belief you have in yourself (Hamish).

Identity means to have a special trait about yourself which is something different like your culture or beliefs. You could be different in many ways and that would be special to you and who you are (Nathan).

Identity to me is something that makes me who I am and who people see me as. It is who I am associated with and my family's background and culture (Dusty).
