Principal's Report

Principal's Report, 18th May 2017

In the midst of the Federal Budget and its implications for education funding and the ratification of the new Victorian Government Schools Agreement 2017 we continue the important daily work of learning with and from your daughters.

Review Report

As you know Melbourne Girls’ College was reviewed in term 1 by Mr. Michael Rowland who analysed an enormous amount of data, evidence and most importantly worked with our students, parents and staff to gain insight into the school. The report is available upon request and was discussed in detail at School Council on the 16th May. A draft Strategic Plan will be developed with our staff from the Review’s recommendations. The key actions for the 2017-2020 Strategic Plan will centre around:

  • Every teacher at MGC being a teacher of wellbeing. This will be facilitated through Professor Lea Waters’ Visible Wellbeing Program in 2018-2019.

Wellbeing at MGC is closely aligned with our extensive co-curricular programs which provide opportunities in areas of interest for a wide variety of girls.

  • Differentiation of learning for every student. This will centre on professional learning, data literacy and planning for extending all students, no matter where they place on a learning continuum. The areas to be targeted specifically are gifted, talented students, numeracy, literacy and key learning areas.
  • Continuing to embed The Curiosity & Powerful Learning framework (CPL) and Learning Model, a shared pedagogical language and approaches to Visible Learning.
  • DET Framework for School Improvement (FISO). http://www.education.vic.gov.au/about/educationstate/Pages/outcomes.aspx
