VCAL Showcase
The Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) is an accredited secondary certificate that can be completed as an alternative to VCE for senior secondary students. The VCAL takes an applied learning approach, where students learn through practical work-related experience, both inside and outside school.
At Staughton, we are proud of the achievements of our VCAL students. For many years our VCAL students have had an excellent record of post school pathways. These include continuing in further training, going on to apprenticeships and traineeships and securing full time employment. They also run many events, promotions, and activities within the school.
This week, we have held our first annual VCAL Showcase to celebrate the work of VCAL. This is a terrific initiative that allows VCAL students to demonstrate their learning to their families and the whole Staughton College community. The VCAL students explained to our younger students how VCAL works and why it is a great option for some career pathways.
Our VCAL program has a heavy emphasis on community service. This was particularly highlighted in the showcase when students presented their work in the CHASE project, Road Trauma Project, and the Toy Drive Project.
Important Dates for Term 4
I would like to remind the whole school community of two important dates for Term 4. The next Parent, Teacher and Student Conferences day/evening is on Wednesday 26th October. We have increased the number of these days over the past few years. This allows students, parents, and teachers to have more regular conversations to ensure students continue to show learning growth.
It is important that all families make bookings to attend. More details will come out shortly with the upcoming interim reports.
Monday, the 31st of October (the day before Melbourne Cup Day) is a student free day.
On Friday, the 18th November, students will be dismissed at lunch time. After lunch teachers will meet to discuss students learning progress in 2016, and to participate in professional learning focussed on what we can do to further improve students learning.
