INTERNATIONAL STUDENT NEWS
Welcome
This term, four new students have joined the international student cohort at Collingwood College. Xinyu Long (from China) and Ibrahim Alghurair (from Saudi Arabia) have commenced the Intensive English Language Program in our Language Centre while Mauri Utriainen (from Finland) and Benjamin Mccash (from America) have joined mainstream classes. We wish them the best with their studies and welcome them to the school community.
Local Excursion
Recently, the Language Centre class enjoyed a local ‘Mindful Walking’ excursion to Dights Falls as part of learning about sensory writing. We were fortunate to have warm weather which helped us take in the beautiful sights and sounds along the Yarra main trail. Students have since worked hard with their student teacher, Audrey Dean, to create descriptive responses with a focus on figurative language devices. See below to read some of those responses:
Oh, The Places You’ll Go! (Dr Seuss)
It is now that time of year when school is coming to an end for Year 12 students. The International Students’ Team would like to acknowledge Ngoc Uyen (Elle) Ho, Ulaiporn (Beam) Kluaising and Hieu Vy (Vy) Nguyen for their contributions to the program and school life at Collingwood College. It is always rewarding to see international students overcome the many challenges of transitioning to another country and achieve their goals of completing their studies abroad. A special and BIG thank you must go to Elle for speaking on behalf of the internationals students at the assembly and valedictory dinner – well done. Good luck with your exams and future studies.
