Student Volunteers

Special Students...

We have some very special students who have been volunteering their time to help their local communities:

- Hayley Matuschka (10C) works as a Lifeguard at Cape Paterson

- Noah Heydon (10G) assists as a basketball coach at his local club

- Rhiannon Ludbrook (10H) works in a cafe at her local church

- Jade Byriell (10A) volunteers as part of a youth group at her church

- Alex Turner (8G) volunteers with the Junior CFA

- Riley Groves (8A) volunteers with the Junior CFA (over 200 hours of training)

- Amelia Clifford (11C) volunteers with the Junior CFA and has just graduated into the senior ranks

This is Amelia's story:

I've been a volunteer junior fire fighter for 5 years  and was lucky enough to have been voted by my fellow brigade members as the first female Junior Captain at Ferntree Gully, a position which I have held for 2 years.

Since the start of January I've been completing my Certificate II public safety (Fire fighting operations) aka Rookies course. On the course alone I've participated in activities such as Safety and Survival, Respond to Remote Isolated Structure and my favourite - a very challenging Breathing Apparatus (BA) exercise! It's been an amazing experience so far and I'm extremely excited and looking forward to many more years!

I am currently completing the CFA Recruits course, graduating this Sunday as a fully qualified senior fire fighter.

For any recruiting information don't hesitate to ask me.

Congratulations to Amelia and all our student volunteers. If any other students have a story to tell please see Mrs Nickels.
