School Improvements
Dear Parents, Students & Staff
I'm very happy to report that the school is making significant improvements to our learning environment (both physical & behavioural).
We have put into place a cyclic process for classroom furniture, floor coverings, painting, whiteboards & projectors so that over time all of our rooms will be refurbished. Over the last holidays we:
- replaced student tables in rooms C6 & C7 and refurbished the tables (new tops) in four other rooms
- provided 150 new matching chairs in five rooms
- repainted two classrooms and painted & carpeted the Admin Office area
- installed 8 new data projectors so that we only have four rooms without one. These will be done next year
- installed five new whiteboards, re-arranged the boards in several other rooms and completed some associated carpeting, painting & carpeting repairs.
We have commenced a process to upgrade our classroom lighting to LED fittings complete with time switches. The whole of A Block (Languages, Music & Health) was completed last week together with the foyer in the Admin area. This markedly reduces our carbon footprint, significantly reduces our energy bills and provides much brighter illumination. Next year we will use this year's energy savings to upgrade another classroom wing.
We have introduced a revised policy regarding mobile phones to ensure that students use them when appropriate for specific learning tasks but otherwise keep them out of sight so that students are not distracted from their other classroom learning activities.
Teachers are continuing to incorporate increased use of notebook computers in classroom activities so it is important that students act responsibly in bringing their computers to every class and making sure that they are re-charged each evening. We ask parents to encourage their students to adopt this habit as part of their organisational skills development.
