Religious Dimension

Welcome

Welcome to Term 2 and I sincerely hope that all of our school families and students have had a wonderful Easter break. Last term was very important to our students and staff as we engaged our students with dialogue around the true meaning of Easter. The Stations of the Cross were a highlight and our Year 5/6 students presentation was appreciated, for their collaborative and reverent approach, which helped us to experience the journey of Jesus' crucifixion and sacrifice. Adding a touch of Aboriginal Art and artefacts certainly helped to make it even more special.

This Week's Gospel - John 6:16-21

'They saw Jesus, walking upon the water.'

In the evening the disciples went down to the shore of the lake and got into a boat to make for Capernaum on the other side of the lake. It was getting dark by now and Jesus had still not rejoined them. The wind was strong, and the sea was getting rough. They had rowed three or four miles when they saw Jesus walking on the lake and coming towards the boat. This frightened them, but he said, ‘It is I. Do not be afraid.’ They were then willing to take him in the boat, but in no time it reached the shore at the place they were making for.

The Gospels of Matthew, Mark and John all share this story of a well known miracle. It's message reassures us that Jesus is someone we trust and that our faith in him has the ability to cease the most furious storm. Jesus demonstrates his power and compassion for his people and we give thanks for this every day.

I wonder if you could discuss with your children about times when you have held on to your faith during challenging times. What has been a challenging time in your life where faith has supported you and given you strength?

Stations of the Cross

Re-contextualising scripture from our bible is so important to us and our students at St. John's Primary School. During the final week of our term our Year 5/6 students dramatised all 14 stations and we give thanks to all the parents who came and watched our students' performances. It was a truly moving experience and Amanda Hill, our Performing Arts teacher, prepared them so well.
