As we approach the business end of the year, where students complete SACs and assessment tasks in preparation for their final examinations, we remind our students of the importance academics play at Oakleigh Grammar. In the semester gone, we have celebrated sporting achievements at the House Swimming and Athletics as well as the EISM Championship events while also successfully hosting the NSE games. Our Pastoral focus is always paramount with Camps in Year 11 and 12 being completed as well as several exciting programs during our Pastoral sessions. That being said, it is crucial that we remind our students that one of the most important facets of our school is academic growth.

To assist our students in this process and providing a space for this growth, we introduced a new initiative in Term 2, that of the Study Evening. On Wednesday May 31 we had thirty nine out of fifty-four Year 12 students remain afterschool to complete work and meet with some of their VCE teachers as we launched the inaugural Study evening. The evening was a success with students completing plenty of work in the lead up to their School Examinations. We had 8 teachers remain behind and commit their time to working with our students at various points throughout the night.

As the evening was such a success and well received by students, we will be looking to offer it more regularly to all VCE students throughout Term 3. Our Senior School students completed their Midyear examinations and also those completing a Unit 3/4 subject completed their VCAA GAT examination. It certainly has been a busy term with a well-deserved break to come.

To those students that weren’t able to achieve at the level they had hoped, use the break to review, revise and rejuvenate as Term 3 is going to be just as, if not more busier. Those that achieved at the level they were hoping for, time to look at how you can extend those grades for your final examinations at the end of the year, and those that achieved above and beyond what they had hoped, well done to you, keep on striving for success.

Have a restful term break, make sure you balance your time with relaxing and preparation for the term to come.

Best wishes

As we reach the end of another term, it is with great pleasure that we reflect on the many achievements and positive experiences our students engaged in. Throughout this term, our students have demonstrated outstanding commitment to their health, study skills, and overall success. It has been a term filled with celebrations, engagement, and service that have fostered a true sense of community spirit and zest for life.

One of the highlights of this term was the completion of the Morrisby report by the Year 10 students. The report has provided invaluable insights into their individual strengths, interests, and potential career pathways. With this knowledge, students are now equipped to make informed decisions about their future education and career goals.

Additionally, the Year 11 students undertaking Unit 3/4 subjects showed great dedication and preparation by participating in the General Achievement Test (GAT). This important assessment allows students to showcase their knowledge and skills while providing valuable feedback for their future learning and growth. We applaud their efforts and wish them the best as they continue their studies.

Throughout the term, we were delighted to witness numerous events that celebrated student engagement and service. The Oakleigh Grammar Gala Ball, the Mother's Day Classic, Anzac Day services, Battle of Crete commemoration, and Breast Cancer sausage sizzle fundraiser. All these and much more demonstrated our students' commitment to giving back to the community and honouring important traditions. These events not only showcased their dedication but also fostered a sense of gratitude and compassion within our school community.

Furthermore, we proudly marked the opening of our new Academic Excellence building, which is a testament to our ongoing commitment to provide a stimulating and conducive learning environment for our students. This state-of-the-art facility will undoubtedly support and inspire academic achievements in the years to come.

As we look ahead to the break, it is important to recognize the hard work and dedication of both  staff and students. Everyone’s efforts have contributed to the positive and successful term we have experienced.

In closing, I would like to share that I will be leaving for a term of Long Service Leave, and I look forward to returning with exciting travel adventures to share. I encourage all students and staff to take this break as an opportunity for rest and rejuvenation. May the winter be warm and safe for everyone, and may Term 3 be productive and rewarding for all.

Wishing you all a restful break and a wonderful winter.

Warm regards,
