Grade 3 - 4
Reading:
Students have continued learning about and practising different reading strategies. We have learnt about Predicting, where students use clues in the text and pictures to guess what will happen next. Questioning, where students are thinking more deeply about the text. We are learning about the strategy of Critiquing where students incorporate all the reading strategies we have covered so far and apply them to the whole class text as well as their independent reading.
Writing
Students have continued working on their Narrative writing. We have begun to include some ‘sizzlings starts’ to engage our readers. We have also been working on including some dynamic dialogue and using alternative words instead of said.
NAPLAN
Students have been busy working on identifying and using the different strategies to answer questions they may see on a NAPLAN test. We have had the opportunity to have a couple of practice NAPLAN tests on the Chromebooks and students have been able to see the layout of the online NAPLAN program and practice logging in. We wish all our students the best of luck for their first ever NAPLAN tests!
Respectful Relationships
Students have been looking how they can help their friends with their emotions by knowing what emotions look like. The focus is now turning towards working collaboratively. They are finding ways that they can support each other. They are also learning how to work together to resolve conflict and how to be kind and fair to everyone by working as a cohort on issues that arise at school.
Maths
Students have started looking at multiplication and division. We have been investigating using the array strategy to solve a range of problems. Students have a chance to use resources such as counters and unifix blocks to model the problems before arriving at their solution. They have done a fantastic job at engaging in this unit so far!
