Principal's Report

House Athletics

Last Friday was the House Athletics and what a marvellous celebration it was.  The weather was perfect. We saw all the students from Years 3 to 6 competing for their House. A highlight was the ‘House Chants’ - these are prepared before the day by each team and then performed at the end of the day. The enthusiasm and passion displayed by all teams was electric! This year the winning chant went to Anyula House (Red). The successful house was Kunjen (Green). The students all showed great resilience and sportsmanship across the day. It was wonderful to see parents, grandparents and friends in attendance cheering our athletes along.  Thank you to all our wonderful parent helpers who helped on the day. I would like to make special mention of Mr Riley, for organising the event.

A huge thank you to the Parent’s Association who provided and distributed the icy poles for all the students. The School Athletics Team has now been finalised and will be heading off tomorrow to compete in the District Athletics Carnival, we wish all our competitors the very best of luck.

Welcome Picnic (Friday 17th March)

The Welcome Picnic was a huge community success. We had a great number of families and friends attend; it was wonderful to see several ex-students there as well.

I think the social media advertising (and the beautiful weather) assisted with the attendance. The purpose of the event was for families to meet and catch up with other families in a relaxed environment and have some fun.  We did however raise approximately $940.55 from the event!

Harmony Day (21st March)

Last Tuesday all the students were engaged in a number of activities to celebrate Harmony Week. Mrs Fisher and the Student Representative Council (SRC) had been busy organising the activities for the day. It was wonderful to see so many students come in their national dress, while others dressed in something ‘orange.’ A wonderful celebration for a very special cause.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank our retiring members, Mon Brasheer and Raja Ravi for their valuable contribution to the council.

Mon has been at the school since 2014 and has been an inspiration to us all. Her positivity, and willingness to help anyone with anything has been relentless. The staff have been extremely grateful for her generosity in supplying delicious  goodies to eat in the staff room. Once the word got around that Mon had dropped off ‘chocolate chip cookies’ there was a rush to the staffroom at recess. Mon was the coordinator for the ‘Spoil the Staff Day’ for the past couple of years, a highlight on the school calendar. Mon always gave staff, parents and students her time to listen and show genuine concern and offer support if needed. She is highly respected and well-liked by students, parents and staff and has been involved in a wide range of school community activities over her years at Syndal South. Thanks, so much. Mon.

Raja has been at the school since 2015, Raja has been a keen supporter of the school. He has been an active contributor to all community activities attending working bees, cooking sausages at the Election BBQ’s, setting up and packing up after events. In his role as School Council President, he has been an advocate for the school, and a great support to me. Thank you, Raja.

Finally, It is hard to believe that we are nearing the end of Term 1 and what a very busy and productive term we have had. As this is the final newsletter for the term, I would like to thank all our students, staff, and parents for your support and valuable contributions throughout the term.

I would like to wish everyone a very safe and enjoyable Easter/holiday break with your family and friends as we look forward to another exciting Term ahead.

The school will resume in Term 2 on Monday 24th April (please note that Tuesday 25th April is ANZAC day and is a public holiday).
