Year 4 Report

Term 1

What a fantastic start to the year!

The end of Term 1 is fast-approaching! Grade 4 teachers are incredibly proud of the students effort and progress so far. Each week has been filled with fun, interesting and meaningful learning experiences that we have enjoyed watching students thrive through.

Literacy

Throughout Term 1, Grade 4 students have been focusing on the purpose, structure and language features of poetry. Students have become familiar with each stage of the writing process and have experimented with a range of devices and deliberate word play to write creative poems. Here are just a few of the many interesting poems written by our Grade 4 students:

The Grade 4 students have also been exploring the purpose, structure, and language features of procedural texts. Students have written procedures for Fairy Bread and Origami that include a title, goal, list of ingredients and materials, and steps in order.

Students have been building their reading stamina each day, working hard to achieve their reading goals. Students have been learning how to self-monitor and adjust while reading, and have been exploring a range of strategies to solve unknown words.

Numeracy

In Maths, students have been developing their counting and place value skills. Students have been using a variety strategies and techniques such as using a number line, rounding and adjusting, splitting numbers and additive thinking to solve a range of addition and subtraction problems. Students have been using hands on activities during their maths lessons.

Inquiry

In Inquiry, students have been investigating how emotional responses vary and how to interact positively with others in different social situations. Students have been learning to apply various strategies for working cooperatively and being resilient. Students have also been exploring healthy habits including the benefits of a healthy mind, amount of sleep and physical activity.

Social and Emotional Learning

In SEL, students have been exploring consequences of emotional responses in a range of social situations. They have recognised personal strengths and challenges and identified skills they would like to develop.

Students have identified factors that contribute to positive relationships with peers, other people at school and in the community. They have learnt about the characteristics of cooperative behaviours, and they have used these in group activities.
