Year 3 Report
Term 1
Term 1 is almost over, and the students have grown so much with their learning. They have been involved in lots of activities throughout the term both inside and outside of the classroom. We have had a wonderful start to the year and would like to wish everyone a safe and happy break.
Literacy
This Term, the Grade 3 students have mainly explored the structure and language choices used in a variety of persuasive texts. Students have also studied other mentor texts including narratives to further their reading comprehension, as well as understand the author's craft. The students have also worked on their reading stamina, fluency, word solving strategies and being able to monitor their own reading ability. In writing the students have learnt how to write a persuasive piece using the correct structure and language choices. They have been able to formulate an argument and support it with 3 strong arguments and supporting evidence.
Maths
In Maths, students have focused on furthering their place value understanding. Students have explored 3 and 4 digit numbers by showing us how to make, rename and expanding numbers using hands on materials such as MAB. They have been supported to add or take 10 or 100 from an original number and use a number line to order 3 and 4 digit numbers. The Grade 3's are currently working on their knowledge of symmetry and chance.
