STEM Report
We have nearly made it to the end of Term 1, time sure does fly when you're having fun! It is very pleasing to see students making such great progress early in the year and reaching some of their semester goals already. Whether it be academically or personally, children have been taking positive steps in their learning journey and have been recognised for their efforts by climbing up the 'Learning Ladder', collecting Roxy Rewards, merit stickers and even receiving STEM Student of the Week awards. Keep up the amazing work!
STEM club has also proven to be a hit, with students of all ages attending at recess time on Friday. A big thanks to Ms Richardson for helping out and bringing some of the Prep students along to have fun building with the Kinex kits and coding with the BeeBots
Spotlight
This term I'd like to shine the spotlight on some of our Grade 6 students' achievements in their Earth Science unit on the Solar System. Tasked with making a model of the solar system, students began by comparing the different types of existing models. They used Venn diagrams to identify the similarities/differences of traditional versus modern digital models and explored the limitations of each. Researching was the next phase, where students used different resources and mathematical skills to record the size and position of planets in our solar system.
Armed with all the information they needed, students then began creating their own models using the digital design program Tinkercad.com. A perfect first step into digital design, the program allows students to create and alter 3D objects of any kind with endless possibilities. Digital objects can then be exported and sent to the 3D printer for production. Check out some of the photos below.
