From the Principal

Dear Parents, Staff, Students and Friends

What a sensational start we have had to Term 2.  During the first week of term our senior students and teachers moved into the new refurbished Senior Centre after almost a decade of the school saving locally raised funds.  Everyone has responded with great joy at finally having a new facility. Our Senior Campus had not undergone any major improvements since its opening in 1969.  Meanwhile, I was thinking that in the next decade we could then eventually refurbish another block.  However, during the second week of school we were taken by surprise with a visit from the

Honourable Martin Dixon, Minister for Education

who made the following announcement:

Anzac Day Assemblies Brilliant!!

During the first week of term our highly skilled student leaders, organised and ran very moving Anzac Day Assemblies.  The unique presentation of the National Anthem and the wonderful choir & solo performances were incredible.  The many student presenters and the way they were presenting from all parts of the hall was most effective. Whilst these assemblies engaged our students in a reflection on life and what matters most it was also a celebration of the wonderful students and staff we are so fortunate to have at our school.

Parent Feedback from Tours Very Positive

Currently we are hosting many large group tours for Grade 6 students and their parents who are interested in Frankston High School as a prospective future school. Our reputation as a school of excellence generates this massive interest. I am pleased to report that parent feedback has been overwhelmingly positive.  Parents have been extremely impressed with how focused students are on their studies, their excellent, courteous behaviour, together with the diversity of programs that our school offers. Our extraordinary learning culture that our visitors experience is due to the exceptional team of people in our community, such as yourselves, our very capable staff and of course our wonderful students.

Parents are Invited to Have Their Say About the Future Direction of our Great School

2014 is our Year of Review whereupon we analyse our progress since 2010 and identify priorities for the next four years.  We would like to consult parents about what actions parents regard as critical to be undertaken in the next four years for continued success of Frankston High School.  Parents are invited to attend either the

PFA meeting on 13 May, 7:30pm

or our

School Council meeting on 20 May, 7:30pm

to share their ideas.  Please RSVP by contacting the school reception on 9783 7955 if you would like to attend either forum.

HPV Team Does Us Proud!

I would like to thank Mr Ridoutt who has devoted countless hours to training our enthusiastic HPV team.  They competed on Sunday 27 April where all their hard training paid off with the team securing fourth place in the Open Division against private and public schools from across the state.  It was a great day of parents, staff and students, working together learning about the important value of good sportsmanship together with acquiring the skills of being a good team player.

FHS Southern Zone Swimming Champions Produces a Great State Swimming Squad

Thanks to the dedication, coaching and organisation of Ms Anderson, Mrs Hunter

and Ms Comer, our school swimming team have convincingly become Southern Zone Swimming Champions yet again. This yielded a talented squad to participate in the State Championships. Our squad were triumphant in bringing home six Gold, one Silver and two Bronze Medals, which was a remarkable achievement.  Three of the Gold Medals were due to relay teams allowing the achievements to be celebrated amongst many.

Elite Frankston High Athletes Shine for our School and Victoria

Michael Cann (Year 10), Kaelah Elvish (Year 8), and Brad Butler (Year 8)

were selected as part of a 22 member Victorian team to compete in the Little Athletics National Championships.  Michael was placed 1st in Australia in the U15 Multi, Brad achieved a 1st

in Javelin and 3rd in Shot-put whilst Kaelah was a member of the best relay team in Australia.  It is amazing to think that three students from our school made up this very small elite team.  Thanks to Ms Edwards who coaches these students at school and on the weekends. It is teachers such as Ms Edwards who give so much of their time to help our students to perform at their very best.

The Busy Month of May

There is so much going on at Frankston High school throughout May.  We wish our Stage Band every success at the National Jazz Competition in Mt Gambier.  I look forward to catching up with parents and friends at our up and coming school musical ‘Seussical’.  Then there is the Debutante Ball, where I will probably become a bit emotional as my beautiful daughter, along with many other daughters and sons, enjoy this evening of celebration.

The weather is turning; Keep warm.
