Guided Reading

All students from Prep to Year 6 engage in Guided Reading with their class teacher. Guided Reading is an instructional practice or approach where teachers support a small group of students to read a text independently. This approach enables teachers to explicitly teach students how to read. Guided reading is small-group reading instruction designed to provide differentiated teaching that supports students in developing reading proficiency. The small group model allows students to be taught in a way that is intended to be more focused on their specific needs, accelerating their progress. Teachers use a levelled text, appropriate to the learning needs of the students, with a clear focus (learning intention) for that particular lesson. The teacher teaches a particular reading skill developing students phonological awareness, phonic knowledge, word recognition, comprehension or fluency.

Here are some students from PrepCM and 1/2MB participating in Guided Reading:

NAPLAN

Over the last two weeks, our Year 3 and 5 students completed the NAPLAN Writing, Reading, Conventions of Language, and Numeracy Tests. NAPLAN is a national literacy and numeracy assessment which students in Year 3 and Year 5 undertake annually. NAPLAN assesses the students essential skills in reading, writing, spelling, grammar and punctuation, and numeracy.

We are very proud of all the students and the way in which they have approached these tests - demonstrating resilience, perseverance, confidence and a positive attitude.

Hopefully we will have the results from our NAPLAN tests back soon. This information shows us growth and progress of students as well as helping us to plan for future teaching and learning.

If you wish to access any further information about NAPLAN see the link below and please feel free to chat with your child's teacher or myself if you have any questions or concerns.
