Learning in J07

Junior School J07 Dougall is sharing the learning taking place in their class…

In Literacy over the last week, we have been revising the different ways we read and spell the long 'i' sound.  First, we look at 'igh' which is in words such as light and sigh, then we looked at 'y' at the end of one-syllable words such as fly and my.  Then we added 'ie' into the mix with words such as pie and lie.

Here are some pictures of us creating our ‘Night Sky’ with 'igh' and 'y' words on each star.

We have also been working on our reading fluency by reading to each other.  It’s a great way to make sure we are reading accurately and smoothly and also to share the books we are enjoying with each other.

In Maths, we have been doing lots of counting forwards and backward from 100 but we really enjoyed participating in a challenging task about measurement.  We had to work out how 2 students got a different answer when measuring the same thing.  As a warm-up we used match sticks to write our names and as you can see we got quite creative with ways to make each letter!

To finish up week 7 we completed our first house event of the year, a Walk-a-thon.  It was a great opportunity to earn house points and to practice for the colour run which is coming up at the end of the term.
