Student Action Team Planning Day

On February 24, the SAT Planning Day took place after the Leadership Assembly where we were all officially installed as leaders of Endeavour College for 2023. The entire day was a great success for everyone involved. It was exciting to witness the amazing participation of everyone and seeing the SAT members express their ideas, and embrace every opportunity was brilliant. The activities, organised by the Student Executive, were aimed at specific skills and attributes that the SAT Captains wanted to cultivate in their team. They worked to develop teamwork, trust, communication skills and the ability to reflect as individuals. The activities strengthened relationships and allowed new friendships between members. This will be vital as everyone works closely together for the remainder of the year. Each portfolio familiarised themselves with how SAT would function for the remainder of the year. Discussions were held with regard to our shared vision to impact the College in a positive way. It was incredibly rewarding to share in the happy and positive vibe which was especially shown through the enthusiastic dancing that ended the successful and fulfilling day.

Year 10 Health and Wellbeing Day

On Tuesday 28 February, Year 10 students had the choice to either complete First Aid training here at the College or undertake a Service Learning activity at Ingle Farm Family Zone.

First Aid Training

The First Aid training was a mixture of theory and practical applications such as learning how to give CPR, using EpiPens and learning how to bandage fractures. Students started the day by discussing First Aid responses in various situations. Students learnt that first aid can consist of the initial lifesaving support provided to someone in the middle of a medical emergency until professional help arrives, while in other cases, first aid consists of the care provided to someone with a minor injury such as a burn, cut or insect sting. It was a rewarding and eye-opening day for all students.

Ingle Farm Family Zone

Students had a lot of fun getting to help at Ingle Farm Family Zone. Students lent a hand organising the storeroom, and even sat in a class with women who were learning English as another language. Students made ham and cheese sandwiches for the children and even had the opportunity to design and create an art piece to leave at the Family Centre.

Senior Design Tech Happenings

A busy start to 2023 for the Design Technology faculty. Our Year 12 Product Design class have been focusing on their AT1 skills task which allows them to develop skills in preparation for their major project. They have been exploring joining techniques, in particular, pocket hole and biscuit joins. Additionally, they have been upskilling themselves on using the laser cutters and our new CNC router.

In Advanced Manufacturing, our Year 12 students have been working on their AT1 skills task. They have been designing a product holder, which needed two interlocking components and are using the 3D printers to refine the print skills to get a desired finish. These skills will help them prepare for their major project.

Our Year 11 students currently undertaking Product Design are completing a plywood skills task. They have been focusing on plywood joining techniques, with the finished product being a plywood chopping board. These students have the option to use the CNC router or the laser cutter to add a design feature to their boards.

In Advanced Manufacturing, our Year 11 students have been learning about the 3D printers and laser cutters. Students are required to display their knowledge and understanding of both technologies in the form of a display board. Students need to change the 3D printer settings to achieve different printing methods. Additionally, they need to display how changing settings on the laser cutter will give a different cut or etch finish. Their finished products are the settings that they believe give the best finish on 3mm MDF.

Our Year 12 classes will start focusing on their major projects in the coming weeks and we can't wait to see the innovative ideas that they come up with!

Stay tuned for a Middle Years Design Technology update in the next Anchor.

Business Innovation Incursion

The Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) does not usually receive favourable press; however, they did provide a valuable learning opportunity to our Year 10 and Year 11 Business and Economics students. On Friday 3 March, the 4 classes watched and listened to a detailed Zoom presentation by a senior economist at the RBA. The Introduction to Economics session, contained important information about how the economy functions and how the RBA can manage changing economic conditions such as inflation. Our students were attentive and focused and gained insight into the complex management of our economy.

Aboriginal Community Art Mural: Breaking News!

Indigenous artists Shane Cook and Thomas Readett will begin work on the Art Mural this Tuesday 14 March through to Friday 17 March. This means the doors in the Mall (near the Round Building on the ground floor) will be locked to minimise traffic and risk to our artists while they work. You will also notice that there will be bunting (flags) around the artists as they work, on and off our scissor lift.

Exciting times ahead! Keep watching this space.
