Model UN

On the last Thursday of term 2, 6 Hey students headed for a day of debate and international engagement as they participated in a model United Nations Assembly. This full day simulation of a UN General Assembly was a day for our students, as 'delegates' of their chosen nation, to step into the shoes of ambassadors for the day. They discussed and debated a proposed resolution on action for refugees and asylum seekers, with the aim of finding the best possible solution to a complex global issue. There was plenty of dialogue between countries as allies and opponents were identified and compromises and solutions explored. After plenty of negotiation and multilateral diplomacy, changes and amendments were voted on and a final resolution passed by a majority of countries. Our students represented the countries of Papua New Guinea (Jemimah & Sophia) and Germany (Evie, Thomas, Riegardt and Steven). It was lots of fun and we hope to be involved again if this event is held in Mildura in the future. Thanks to Latrobe University for facilitating today's event!
