Opportunities for Year 9’s & 10’s coming

Discover Melbourne University

We’ve been fortunate to be able to extend invitations to ten carefully selected Year 9 students, who’ve been excelling in their studies, to participate in the Melbourne University Discovery Day program on November 17th & 18th. Funded entirely by the University, they will stay at Newman College on the campus in Parkville and participate in a range of science and engineering workshops. They are very excited to be getting this opportunity. Students from the other Alliance schools will be joining us.

Health & Medical Science

We will be taking a group of 25 students to RMIT’s Bundoora campus on Wednesday 23rd of November. Students will need to register their interest with Ms Waser in the Science office and return permission forms as has been detailed on the daily school bulletin recently. This is a free event, sponsored by RMIT to encourage country students like ours to explore their tertiary options.

Exercise and Sport Science

Likewise we will also be taking a group if 25 students to RMIT’s Bundoora campus on Wed 16th November to explore careers and study related to exercise and sport science, an increasingly popular field. These places will predominately be filled by VMG students taking the Advanced Fitness subject but there is scope for other interested students to respond to the advertising of available places on the daily bulletin through Mr Watson. Once again this event is being sponsored by RMIT to encourage country students like ours to explore their tertiary options

Opportunities for Year 7’s - 9’s coming – Careers with Goulburn Murray Water

Aimed at Year 7’s – 9’s, ten students from each of the Alliance schools will participate in workshops around Finance, ICT, River Operations Water Resources and Construction. Interested students should register with Mr Crosbie in the SLC

Where can a social work degree take you?

One area you can work in is rehabilitation of people who have committed crimes. Rather than seeking to punish criminals, Dr Sophie Goldingay believes play could be key to rehabilitating them. Working in Deakin’s School of Health and Social Development, Dr Goldingay helped develop an innovative ‘play therapy’ program to reshape mindsets.
