NEW BOOKS DONATED TO THE LIBRARY
Mr Guttman from Rotary spoke at the last School Assembly on the topics of volunteering and philanthropy and the important role they played in the fight to eradicate Polio. He noted the striking decline in Polio rates since the 1950s as proof of the difference that volunteering and philanthropy can make. Rotary played an important role in this fight against Polio. Today there are only 57 polio cases worldwide compared with 1000 cases a day in the 1980s. At the end of his speech he presented the school with a book “Dancing in my dreams”. This is the story of the fight against Polio in Australia and is available from the library.
The library also received a copy of the book “Tom Roberts”. This is the exhibition catalogue from the popular Tom Roberts exhibition. This special edition also includes a note from the Prime Minister recommending the book to all secondary schools. A separately published learning guide is also included. The distribution of the book to all secondary schools in Australia was made possible by the National Gallery of Australia Foundation Board Publishing Fund, Australian State and Territory Education Departments and the generosity of John Hindmarsh AM and Rosanna Hindmarsh OAM. This will be a welcome addition to the libraries extensive and well used art section. (The art books can be found in the 700s.)
