Gravitate Camp: Phillip Island 2-4 Feb

Ask one of our fifteen Gravitate students, what is the metanarrative of the Bible?  Or, what would they say if someone asked them, ‘What is unique about the Christian faith?’ Or even, ‘What’s the difference that Jesus has made in their lives?’. Our Gravitate students faced these questions on the weekend at camp in Phillip Island.  They dug deep and found some really great responses.  The theme for the camp was 1 Peter 3:15: 'But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect'.

It was a great start to a full year of exploring Scripture and faith.  Chris Davis and I are so expectant that God will do amazing things with this group and really look forward to them graduating with a Certificate III in Christian Ministry and Theology.  We value your prayers and interest as we journey with them this year.

School Photo Day is Coming: Friday 23 Feb 2018

SchoolPix will be here on Friday, 23 February

Photo day tips:

Dress

Clean and tidy as per school uniform guidelines. All students will need to wear their full summer uniform, but no school jumpers are required.  Secondary students will need their blazer.  No sport uniform please, even if your child has sport on that day.

Hair

It is the policy of the College for girls to have their hair tied back at school.  However, just for the school photos, girls may elect to have their hair down for their individual photo only as long as it is neat and tidy and not covering their face.  Girls are to have their hair tied back as per the usual uniform policy for the class photo.

No Right Hand Turn onto Kingston Road

Parents, a reminder that right-hand turns are not permitted out of the College onto Kingston Road on school days between the hours of 8:00am and 9:30am and 3:00pm and 4:00pm.

This is clearly sign posted at the College entrance/exit point. If you need to head east down Kingston Road, please turn left on to Kingston Road and drive down to the Dingley Bypass. There is a slip lane at this intersection so the extra time required is minimal.

It has been noted that some parents are ignoring this rule. For the safety of all drivers and passengers please obey this rule. Thank you.

Extra Car Park Area

The College has grown significantly this year and there are more cars using the car park. Parents, you are permitted to park on the vacant block of land next to the College (see photo below).

This land is owned by Kingston City Church and is on the corner of Old Boundary and Boundary Roads. You might find it easier to park here than in the car park. I know it is a much faster get away after school if you park here compared to the car park! We would appreciate you parking in an orderly way here. Thank you.

First Working Bee for 2018

Our first working bee for the year is being held on Saturday 24 February, 9:30am - midday. The working bee is primarily for families with surnames beginning with A-K. However, if you are a L-Z family you are welcome to attend this working bee instead of another one.

There is one working bee scheduled per term and families are encouraged to attend two sessions for the year. You will receive a credit of $75 towards your school fees for each working bee you attend.

Working bees are actually a lot of fun, and a great way to meet parents and at the same time put something back into the College. The types of jobs undertaken at working bees include gardening, cleaning, painting and general maintenance. We usually break the work up with morning/afternoon tea, so there is time to chat and mingle with the other parents. Please bring a plate of morning tea to share.

We do request for people to bring their own equipment. Of particularly use are whippersnippers, wheelbarrows, rakes, garden forks (great for moving mulch), spades and household cleaning items. There is a high chance that you will get dirty, so please wear old clothing!

David Holloway will be coordinating our first working bee. Working bees go ahead rain, hail or shine. Please take note of the dates of the working bees for the year and plan to be there!

2018 School Immunisation Program for Year 7 & 10 Immunisation

On Friday 16 February, the City of Kingston Immunisation team will come to HCC and provide free immunisation to Year 7 & 10 students. Please see attached information and should you need further information, please contact the College office on 8551 6650.

Does this sound like your child?

Anxious? Moody? Withdrawn? Angry? Bullied? Excessive crying/tantrums? Perfectionist? Low self-esteem? Excessively shy? School refusal? Hyper/inability to concentrate? Body weight conscious? Friendship issues? Stealing? Other issues?

Did you know that HCC has a registered psychologist (Lilly Bui) on site two days a week? Lilly sees children on a 1-on-1 setting to ensure the student’s privacy.

Lilly is a registered Medicare provider so bulk billing is possible. In fact, with a referral and mental health plan from your GP, the sessions are completely free of charge to you (up to 10 sessions per 12 months).

If you think your child would benefit from seeing Lilly, please contact the College office on 8551 6650 to obtain more information.

Note for parents who applied for CSEF last year: you do not need to submit a new form this year unless there is a change in their family circumstances.
