From the Deputy Principal's Desk

Dear Parents/Guardians
2018 is Underway
We are now approaching the end of the second week of school for 2018. I must say that it has been a very smooth and calm start for the whole school.
It has been fantastic to welcome our new Year 7 students into the Secondary School and it is always exciting to see them start their journey through Secondary. There are new friends, systems, rooms, equipment and subjects for them to get their heads around, so the first weeks can feel a bit daunting – for the parents as well as the children! Please be assured that they will settle quickly as routines settle and the unknown becomes known.
In regards to the Year 7s, I would like to acknowledge the fantastic work that Jacky Gupta and the team of Year 7 teachers do with guiding the students in this time of transition – Jacky’s experience and wisdom come to the fore at this time of the year in particular.
Meanwhile, at the other end of the Secondary school, our Year 12s have come back ready to tackle their final year. We are really pleased to see how diligently they are approaching their work, showing great focus and determination in their learning. It is an achievement to reach this level of schooling and we do wish them well in their quest to achieve their best outcome in their studies this year (and beyond!). It is an intense year for them but they are ably guided by their Year 12 teachers, a number of whom are, or are aiming to be, VCE examiners (teachers need to apply to be a VCE Exam marker; showing professional expertise and strong content understanding to be selected). All of our teachers are very committed to being good learners themselves and to improve their ability to assist students in their growth and learning. In doing so, our intention is always to help students to grow in our '5 Foundations (that is, Spiritually, Academically, Physically, Emotionally and Socially) of a whole, healthy child'.
Thank you for being a part of our community at Heatherton Christian College and we pray that your child(ren) and family will be blessed through their journey with us in 2018.
