Wellbeing Matters

Digital Ambassadors Conference

On Thursday 15th August, 20 students from both Year 7 and Year 8 received the opportunity of attending the Digital Ambassador Conference, held at Doncaster Secondary College. This opportunity was mainly targeted towards Student Wellbeing Leaders and Technology Champions.

We attended the event with many schools surrounding, both from nearby and further away.  From here we all went into an amphitheatre, provided by the school. We firstly started the event by two speakers. They were interested in what we first thought, when it came to first impressions.  Both of them individually gave us a rundown of what they are wearing, to mainly emphases themselves.  Soon after this they explained what Project Rockit was and what they do.

Further into the session they both pulled up some images, these images where of Instagram accounts. These Instagram accounts where copies and bully accounts for a particular person.  Mainly where they picked on a person, post photos of them and joke around about their personality, looks and background.  As students, we really took this in and definitely indicated us of what these accounts might look like and what to look out for.  As a whole, we each received a piece of paper.  On the slip of paper is 20 boxes with different social media situations and things they want to see change on social media.  We were given 3 minutes to underline a range of issues in which we are interested in and then 2 minutes to circle what the biggest concerns are on social media. From here they gave us the opportunity to share personal experiences, and explain what they would like to see more of on social media. Each school got to describe and envisage to us of what they wish to assist with, when it comes to personal issues and worldwide problems.

Overall our school had a great time at the Project Rockit excursion and it has taught us all how to keep ourselves and others safe online and to finally teach us how to strive for what we believe in.
