Childers
Our Daffodil day/week was quite eventful for Childers! On the Monday, we witnessed in angst… some very brave students donate their hair during our ‘Hair Raiser’ event. Thank you to Hannah Moon (Year 11), Tazman Reuel (Year 8), Tjula Holder (Year 8), Oliver Lee-Ack Mumford (Year 11), Merrick McDonald (aka Mrs Edna Turnblad) (Year 11), and Elissa Ross (Year 8 - earlier donation). The donations will be made into wigs to support people suffering from alopecia and those undertaking cancer treatment.
You may have seen us at Bunnings during Daffodil Day week cooking up snags for hungry shoppers! Thank you to all staff and students who gave up some of their Sunday to support Childers and the Cancer Council. An amazing effort!
Money was also raised at Warrnambool College during our dress-up day “in uniform”. Efforts from staff and students included nurses, surgeons, tradies, sporting clubs, other school uniforms, chefs and of course some students from the Gryffindor House of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry! Thank you to all parents and students who made baked goods to sell, helped run the stall, BBQ and music. We topped it all off with our Daffodil Day Spaghetti Eating competition! Congratulations to Liam Agnew of Hopkins House who was our champion for the second year in a row. An enormous high five to Ronald Sly (Merri), Skyla Couch (Childers) and Colby Marshall (Flagstaff) who gave defeating the reigning champion their best shot. Thank-you for participating in good spirit for an even greater cause.
During this week, some students took time to write a special message to a loved one they lost to cancer, people affected by cancer and those suffering from cancer. Messages can be found on large ‘cancer ribbon’ posters in the corridor of B wing. If you would like to add a message of love and support, please fell welcome.
We still have lots of cool Cancer Council merchandise to sell and will except gold coin donations for them; pens, soft footballs, arm bands, badges, and keyrings. Please visit the Childers Office if you’d like to buy something!

Proudly supporting
Good Luck and Safe Travels to one of our Logan’s house assistant’s, Ms Skilbeck.
Ms Skilbeck has been given a wonderful opportunity to be a part of a study tour to Siem Reap, Cambodia. The focus of the tour will be on responsible tourism, culture, and ancient and modern history. Ms Skilbeck will be part a group of Warrnambool College staff and students to assist in supporting the Merri House charity Taksenkangbloung Community Centre. This will no doubt be a rewarding and life changing experience.
HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to two of our Logan’s girls, Brianna Kilpatrick and Maddison Drake. They will be part of the RESPECT Junior International Grand Fitness Team competing in the Dutch city of Leiden from 10th-12th October. We wish the girls and their team GOOD LUCK.
We would like to wish Warrnambool Pipes and Drums members Calum Tait who will be performing with Flagstaff student, Hannah Van Zyl a safe trip to Ireland! Both these students, along with 4 other local students, are participating in the National Youth Pipe Band as a part of the Belfast International Tattoo on September 6th and 7th. They will also be performing 2 other concerts on their 11-day tour.
Best of luck and enjoy!

It was great to see year 8 students proudly showing off their picture books to a large crowd of parents who admired the beautiful artwork and stories.
Congratulations to the following Logan’s students for being chosen winners in the following categories:
Best Art: Tayah Polack and Nora Stromvall-O’Brien
Best Combination: Tara Alexander, Charlee Hong, Ollie Dixon, Charlotte Townsend
It’s hard to believe there is only two weeks left of term three left. The Logan’s team would like to wish families a safe and restful holiday and look forward to students coming back ready to take on the challenges of term four.
Merri
Term 3 has been full of excitement for team Merri. 2020 Subject selections, new electives and a redefined Merri Office have kept the students busy. A massive congratulations must go out to all College members whose fruits of their labour came to the forefront in the recent College rendition of “Hairspray: The Musical”. The bouffant hairstyles, and energetic personalities created an electric atmosphere which has received glowing reviews. Merri congratulate its own members listed below. The English faculty recently held a Picture story book competition, where there were 3 categories to be judged. This elicited many a discussion amongst the staff members, as the illustrations and gripping details were first class. Given the quality of work produced and the many entrants, a big congratulations goes to Harry Dodson, for taking out the Best Art category, and Scarlett Westhorpe who won the overall competition. Honourable mentions go to Chance Kelly and Hayley Carr, whose persistence and creativity were recognised with the prestigious Hulin award.
As you may be aware, Merri has an empowering charity partnership with the Taksenkangbloung Community Centre in Cambodia. The Taksenkangbloung Community Centre is a locally founded not for profit charity that aims to empower the people of Taksenkangbloung village, Cambodia through improving access to education. Every year the Merri Community fund raise to gather as many funds as we can to donate to this inspiring charity. This year, through the annual Merri bake and curry sale and a movie fundraiser event we were able to raise an outstanding amount of $4,500 +.
On Tuesday 17th September 25 students, four teachers and one carer are fortunate enough to be heading off on an eye opening and life changing cultural tour to Cambodia to visit the Taksenkangbloung Community Centre. They will have the honour of presenting the Community Centre with the funds on behalf of the Merri Community.
This cultural tour has been organised by a passionate teacher who is a part of the charities founding committee. Not only will the students get to visit the Taksenkangbluong Community Centre, but they will also be visiting other aid organisations and Cambodian cultural and historical sites. In the lead up to this phenomenal experience students have been attending lunch time classes to learn about the Cambodian culture and history, the Taksenkangbluong Community Centre, other aid organisations we will visit in Cambodia, and most importantly how to be responsible tourists. The students will also be allocating at least half of their baggage limit to transport donated sanitary items, clothing, and laptop computers to the Taksenkangbloung Community Centre.
It is the second time this tour is running and we hope we can continue offering this phenomenal experience to students in the future.
If you would like to know more about the Taksenkangbloung Community Centre and what the charity does please search them on social media or visit the website http://www.taksenkangbloung.org/
Last Friday our student leaders stayed behind school and put a tremendous effort into making the Merri Office a more open and welcoming space for the Merri Community. Their main aim was to provide a space where Merri students feel comfortable to come and talk to teachers if they feel necessary. A new sandwich toaster was added to the lunch space, comfy beanbags to relax on as well as some fun and relaxing games to play whilst you’re waiting. The student leaders encourage the other Merri students to come in and say hello. The student leaders also have other initiatives and ideas they will be rolling out over the course of Term 4 so listen out for exciting competitions and activities to come.
Merri Student leadership nominations for 2020 are also currently being called for. Any Merri student who is keen and interested in having a voice and making a difference can collect a nomination form from the Merri office now. Hurry, don’t wait because nominations are closing soon.
