Year 10

Year 10 Report

Term 2 is a busy one for our Year 10’s:  students are working diligently to complete assessments in all subjects leading to the semester one reports, all will go out to explore career pathways on work experience, some are rehearsing for the school production and musical performances, many have signed up for the Queensland Camp in term 4,

while others have committed to the World Challenge to Northern India in 2019. With all of these extra-curricular activities to participate in students are also encouraged to maintain their mid-term momentum, and to keep academic progress front and centre.

Students are also reminded that Year 10 is a year for building their academic capacities in preparation for VCE and VCAL. This means students should be working to develop stamina in their study habits and writing, by completing classwork, homework and becoming more self-directed in their learning. Students in Year 10 need to develop some understandings about the broader world: the world of politics, international relations, economics, and philosophy. They could be watching Q&A with parents, asking questions and discussing their opinions. The greater independence that comes with their age comes hand in hand with greater responsibility, not only in actions but also opinions and ideas.

Writing and thinking about our Year 10s getting further out into the world reminds me of the work experience that they will have in the last week of this term. In preparation for this the Senior School team will be inviting all students to participate in a day of “Speed Careers” where they will

have the opportunity to meet with prominent members of the community about their careers and how they got there. This a free event and will take place on Friday 1st June during school hours. Any questions about this or any other Year 10 issues, please contact the Year 10 Manager
