Use of Social Media; parent responsibilities

It has been bought to our attention the misuse of Social Media by students whilst at home, on private devices in private time.  The question often is asked; Where does the responsibility between school and home start and stop?  In summary, if social media misuse impacts the learning or social environments at school, for staff or students, schools can become involved.  We strongly encourage all families to discuss this in the home.

Examples of Social Media misuse are:

Of note, the Parent/Guardian Agreement states "Social media such as, but not limited to, Facebook, Instagram, Snap Chat and KIK, are not used at school.  I understand that such social media have minimum age requirements.  If the school becomes aware of students with accounts that violate minimum age requirements and use such in a way that is inappropriate or makes another student feel uncomfortable, the school may report to the relevant hosts and/or notify parents."

Child Safe Standards

There is no specific law in Victoria that says what age children can be left alone. Victorian law is clear however, that it is a parent’s responsibility to ensure that their children are appropriately and safely cared for.

We ask that parents please use the Compass app to receive notifications about all up and coming events and to lodge a student absence.

If you have not already set up your Compass login/account please contact the office for your login pin.

If you are having any Compass technical issues the office is more than willing to offer assistance.
