MCKINNON SWIMMING CARNIVAL

On Wednesday 27 February we held our annual McKinnon Swimming Carnival. The weather was superb (30 degrees and sunny!) and it was great to see all the students dress up in the Hawaiian theme.

Early on in the day students were involved in the junior water polo and beach volleyball. The barbeque was also a popular spot for students to re-energise between events and raise much needed funds for the Antips trip later in the year.

Half time and that only means one thing...Staff v Student dance off! The staff tried their guts out and performed a well oiled rendition of Thriller (Michael Jackson). However, it was no match for the students amazing compilation of around 20 songs with over 150 students involved. Well done to the students on some outstanding choreography.

In the afternoon, it was becoming clear that one team was dominating the majority of events. Despite a late charge in the relays from Flynn, it was Chisholm that was crowned the 2019 Swimming champions.

VICTORIAN ALL SCHOOLS TRIATHLON CHAMPIONSHIPS

Congratulations to McKinnon's first participants in the Victorian All Schools Triathlon Championships. Three students signed up for the early Sunday morning event in perfect conditions.

Noah Koulaouzos-Chun (Year 7) completed the 200m swim/10km bike/2km run in 44 minutes and finished 41st in the state.

Matthew Day (Year 9) tackled the 400m swim/10km bike/4km run finishing 35th in the state.

Finally, Monique Andjelic (Year 9) finished the same course (400m swim/10km bike/4km run) in just over an hour and finished in 6th place.

Well done to these pioneers in McKinnon sport.

SENIOR GIRLS CRICKET

After being sent in to bat, the McKinnon girls set Parkdale a respectable 110 runs for Victory. Lily Felder exited early on, however, Emma Langley, Tess McCartney and Emily Daemon showed some strong skills with the bat.

Katrina Gill and Emily Damon starred with the ball, producing some excellent deliveries and maiden overs. However, fantastic bowling and fielding from the girls sadly wasn't enough to stop Parkdale from scoring the runs in the last over, and the McKinnon girls bowed out of the Kingston division for the first time in five years.

Thanks for a great day ladies and here's hoping 2020 can bring back that McKinnon winning feeling!

INTERMEDIATE BOYS CRICKET

The Intermediate Boys Cricket team ventured to King George Reserve on Wednesday 20 February for the annual Kingston Round Robin.

We ran into a very hot Bentleigh unit in the first game and they smashed up 97 off their 8 overs with their opening batsman getting 62 of those! Vrushank Manchana, Ben Williams and Kevin Pious were our only wicket takers.

In reply we managed a respectable 63 off our 8 overs with Jacob Horvath top scoring with 16.

This opening loss to the eventual champions Bentleigh made it very hard to win the Round Robin but we showed a lot of fight for the rest of the day to beat every other side.

Highlights of the day included Ben Williams’ 22 against Mordialloc, Andreas Bouris’ two wickets and Adam Paliatsos’ 31 against Parkdale, Ben Kupshik’s 35 retired against Sandringham.

Well done to the boys for their commitment on the day
