Principal's Message

Dear Parents & Families

We received some exciting news over the weekend that our school has been shortlisted for the Community Grants “Pick My Project”.  Our project was in response to a need to upgrade our oval facilities, which are, by comparison with other schools, in need of improvements.  Unfortunately, Mentone Girls’ Secondary College has not been the recipient of any funding for new buildings and upgrades for many years now and this has meant that the oval has not been developed.

With your assistance, we hope that we can great a level playing field (excuse the pun) for our girls who are deserving of sporting facilities of a high calibre.  However, we cannot do this alone and we need the help of the school community to vote for this project.

There are more details in our newsletter but I thought I would mention this in my report because without your assistance we may not be able to achieve this worthwhile goal. The project idea is titled "Getting girls on track".  Voting is open until 5pm on Monday 17 September. Many of our students have great success in athletics and field events, however, we do not have facilities on-site for the students to access or offer to our wider community.

Voting is open to anyone who is 16 years or older. So spread the word and let us see what we can do to give our students and members of the local community state-of-the-art facilities at Mentone Girls’ Secondary College.

MGSC continues to build school pride through self-funding facility upgrades so that every student who attends our fine college is educated in a pleasant and modern environment. It is because of this that we are currently paying for upgrades to the Junior School portables out of our locally raised funds. Over the next holiday period, windows which are currently inoperable will be removed and replaced. It was hoped that the existing portables would be replaced with new portables or at least have the windows replaced by the Department of Education.  Disappointingly, MGSC is not currently in line for any assistance in this area. The portables are quite old but will be painted and repaired so that they become more pleasant spaces.

The library is continuing to be enhanced with the recent addition of new furniture and fittings and we have upgraded another corridor of lighting to LED lighting recently.  Tammy, our wonderful gardener, has also been busy planting more trees around the perimeter of the oval.
