Volunteer Interview

Gabby Fennell

Why do you volunteer at BNPS?

I volunteer as I think it is an important part of learning/growing up for my kids to see that we are all in it together - parents, school and student. Knowing & understanding the community around you goes a long way.

What year level are your children in?

Zoe is in Grade 6. My other daughter has finished so this is our last year.

What roles have you volunteered for during your time at BNPS?

Canteen duty, fete working bees, fete committees, fete stalls, Mother’s Day stall, Father’s Day stall, organisation of school discos, extra help for excursions, literacy groups, convenor for Year 6 graduation.

What is your background/current role (outside of BNPS!)?

I am currently a Marketing/Account Manager but have also been a teacher & worked in International Trade...I like trying lots of different things!

What do you do during your spare time?

Free time is very exciting!!! If I am not telling myself to get to the gym, I love lying in a hammock on the verandah, reading a book.

What’s the best thing about BNPS?

I was just talking to Mrs Badley about this the other day! With the help of the IB program, the school really does allow students to think independently & drive their own learning really well. Both my girls have been given the opportunity to consider topics/people that resonate for them (versus prescribed allocation of topics by a teacher) & then focus on these things they connect with.  It makes a big difference to their levels of interest. The teachers & support staff have been wonderful & have understood my kids particularly well.
