Principal's Report

On behalf of the staff, students and parents of Sandringham Primary, I would like to sincerely thank the members of our school community for their show of support following the fire at their school. In particular I would like to thank the following staff members:

  • Grant Rounsley, Beth Lawrence, Sue Miles, Sue Evins and Tania Purton who came to our school on the day of the fire to source spare furniture for the relocation of the 24 classes.
  • Moira Simpson who worked with me on the Sunday, developing and managing the furniture placement for the classes.
  • Crissa Cody-Smith and Bonnie Lewis who boxed up library books.
  • Melissa Ball, Tania Purton and Nick Arnold who took on the role of buddies on the Monday to support the teachers from SPS while they re-established their new teaching spaces before the children started on Tuesday.
  • Our administrative team who photocopied classroom requirements for the teachers.
  • Grant Rounsley who acted as the courier for the day.

Archie and Sid (Therapy Dogs), along with Dr Carolann Clifford and Nat McMahon, who supported the students from Sandringham Primary when they had their first day at their new temporary school.

I would also like to thank the members of our school community who donated tissues and hand sanitizer for classrooms and Kristy Hamshare (Chairperson), who purchased tea, coffee, sugar and dishwashing liquid on behalf of our Parents and Friends for use by staff from Sandringham and Sandringham East Primary Schools.

The offers of support have been unbelievable, and the strong collegiate team of our network schools has ensured that Sandringham Primary School students and staff could re-establish their schooling last Tuesday.

Our 2020 Student Leaders

I would once again like to congratulate our 2020 School Captains, Zoe F (6C) and Kaelen B (6D) and our School Vice Captains, Jordie H (6A), Kiri S (6A), Harley K (6C) and Michael P (6C).

I would also like to congratulate the Year 6 students who were elected by students in Year 4 - 6 to be our 2020 House Captains, the Year 6 students who were elected by the Year 6 students and teachers to be our 2020 Curriculum Captains & Monitors, and the Year 3 - 6 students who were elected by their peers to be our 2020 Junior Council Representatives.

Leadership roles are held in very high regard and a Special Assembly will be held on Monday (17 February at 3pm) to present our Student Leaders with their badges. Please visit the Student Leaders  page of our website to acquaint yourselves with our 2020 Student Leaders.

eSmart Agreements & Smart Watches

By now all students and parents should have completed the online Student eSmart Agreements that were made available on Compass last week. NO student at BNPS is permitted to access any digital resources at school until an eSmart Agreement has been completed.

Part of this agreement is that ALL Smart Watches must be switched off and handed to Classroom Teachers at the beginning of the day - regardless of whether they are 'deactivated' or not. As you will appreciate, we are unable to check if individual watches have been deactivated.

Our Wonderful Volunteers

I would sincerely like to thank the parents who attended the Fete Working Bee last weekend. Everyone pulled together and managed to get through a huge list of chores.

I would also like to thank the many parents who have answered the Parents & Friends call to assist with various events in 2020.

Successful Funding Application

Tim Wilson (MP Federal Liberal member for Goldstein) has advised that our application for the Local Schools Community Fund was successful. In the coming weeks, BNPS will be provided with $19,711 for our 'Hearing Augmentation' project.

I would like to thank Jenny Baird, Teacher Assistant, for her work in putting the application together.

Meet & Greet Opportunity

Our Meet & Greet Interviews have now concluded and I would like to thank the many parents who took the opportunity to meet with their child's Classroom Teacher. I would also like to thank our classroom teachers who conducted over 500 conversations during the interview period. These valuable conversations enable us to best support your child's needs and learning journey.

In Term 2, parents will be invited to book a 15-minute meeting for their child’s Parent/Teacher Interview to discuss progress.

Only 29 Days to Fete!

The countdown is well and truly on and the Fete Committee are doing an outstanding job. Ride wristbands are now on sale and raffle tickets will be coming home tomorrow - there are some great prizes to be won!

I urge you to get involved in whatever capacity you can - please keep a look out on Compass.

I would once again like to recognise and thank our generous sponsors and of course the work of our Fete Sponsorship Team. We are thrilled to welcome Domicile Building Design on board as a Platinum Sponsor, Beaumaris Medical Centre as a Silver Sponsor and Bayside Community Hub as a Bronze Sponsor.

2020 Voluntary Education Contribution

Thank you to the families who have paid the 2020 voluntary education contribution. Many of our programs and facilities are only made possible through the generous contributions of our parent community.

It's not too late to contribute and I encourage all families to support where they can to provide our students with the best possible learning opportunities and environment in 2020. Payment can be made in the following categories via Qkr> School Payments > Education Fees (Prep - Year 6):

  • Digital Technologies
  • First Aid, Health & Wellbeing
  • School Contribution
  • Playground & Facilities Fund

Please CLICK/TAP HERE for an explanation of each of the charges is attached and don't hesitate to contact the Office if you have any queries.

Looking Ahead...

I wish all of our Year 4 - 6 students the best of luck for Wednesday (19 February) as they head off to our House Swimming Carnival at GESAC.

It is well known that parents and carers play a critical role in the cyber safety of children. I encourage all parents and carers to attend our upcoming ThinkUKnow Parent Cyber Safety & Security Presentation to be held on 16 March 2020.

It has been wonderful to see staff and students commence the year in such an enthusiastic manner. Keep up the great work everybody!
