First XVIII Football Gosse Medal Presentation Night

The Gosse Medal is an initiative by the SAAS Football competition in recognition of the best player in the A1 Football Competition. A medal is also presented to the best player in the A2 Football Competition in which the Blackfriars First XVIII Football team competes in. Umpires vote 3, 2, 1 for each game. The highest vote achievers from each school were invited to a presentation night. Nine out of 12 games counted for premiership points and votes. Congratulations to Harry Baker (Year 11) and Domenic Pratico (Year 12) who both achieved 7 votes each. This placed them equal 5th overall in the entire competition! An outstanding achievement!

 

First XI Soccer and Twilight Soccer League

Congratulations to the First XI Soccer team for earning a place in the Twilight Soccer League Grand Final. The team were undefeated in the minor rounds finishing top of the table. The final was played on Wednesday 30 August against St Michael’s College at Adelaide Shores. Unfortunately, the team were defeated 4 – 2. Goal scorers were Luis Lawrie-Lattanzio and Anyoun Kuol. Best on Ground was awarded to Sebastian Matosevic.

 

Congratulations to Carlo Armiento who finished the season as the Most Valuable Player and Golden Boot winner of the Twilight Soccer League with 21 votes and 15 goals. An outstanding individual achievement!

 

Part of the Twilight Soccer League, an ‘All Star’ team has been established in which players with the most votes in their preferred positions are chosen. These votes are given by the referees and demonstrate that these players were the most consistent throughout the season. Congratulations to three students who made the 2017 All Star Team:

The First XI Soccer team are currently in the semi-final stage of the Open State Knockout Competition. The team will play St Ignatius on Tuesday 19 September at The Parks. A win will see the team in the finals which will be played on Tuesday 26 September.

 

First XI Soccer vs BOSA SC

The annual Tony Moss Memorial Game between Blackfriars First XI Soccer team and Blackfriars Old Scholars Association Soccer Club (BOSA SC) will be held on Wednesday 27 September at Charles Cane Reserve, 7:00pm kick off. Blackfriars will be aiming to win back the trophy from a strong BOSA SC side. Congratulations to BOSA SC who are Premier B Champions for the 2017 SAASL Season.

 

Dominican Cup Debating Competition

The annual Dominican Debating Competition between Blackfriars and St Dominic's Priory College will be held on Monday 25 September at Blackfriars Priory School. The teams will compete for the following cups:

  • The Caleruega Cup for Juniors Years 6 – 8.
  • The Fr John Neill Cup for Intermediate Years 9 and 10.
  • The Sister Jillian Havey Cup for Seniors Years 11 and 12.

Upcoming Knockout Sport Fixtures

  • 8/9 5-a-side Indoor Soccer – Blackfriars will compete in the finals of the 8/9 5-a-side Indoor Soccer competition on Wednesday 27 September at Mars Sporting Complex. The team will compete against other top schools from their respective zones.

 

Student Achievements

Congratulations to Boyd Woodcock winning the 2017 McCallum Tomkins Medal for the Under 18 Torrens Uni Cup Competition. With a total of 19 votes, Boyd finished three votes ahead of second place. Boyd polled four first preferences, two second preferences and three thirds.

Congratulations to Isaiah Lee who has been selected to represent South Australia in the Under 21 National Table Tennis Championships. The Championships will be held 23 – 30 September at The ARC Campbelltown.

Congratulations to Ryan Hanson who has been selected to represent South Australia as the goalkeeper to attend the Under 14 Football Federation Australia National Junior Championships in Coffs Harbour in September.

 

Congratulations to Sean Mitchell who played a very strong game with the Burnside Rugby Club in the grand final taking out the 2017 Under 14s Rugby Union Premiership.

All students participating in Cricket from Year 8 and above are reminded to ensure they have purchased a white Blackfriars Cricket top from the Uniform Shop.
