Climate Change Project

I was incredibly impressed with the auditions for our new Climate Change project. Over 30 students have expressed an interest in being involved. This includes actors, costume and set designers, musicians, scriptwriters, editors, film makers and production managers: an amazing result. Actors were asked to prepare a speech around the subject of Climate Change. Students presented various monologues which they had written inspired by their research. This included characters who were farmers, bush fire victims, flat earthers, scientists, politicians, singers and even a polar bear and a hologram from the future! What creativity!!! We are very lucky to have Tom Anson Mesker working with our students. His knowledge and experience is helping guide the direction of the project. We are setting up writing hubs and have some very talented students who will write up some of the script. Here is Tom’s bio:

TOM ANSON MESKER:

Tom Anson Mesker is an actor and writer from Sydney’s Northern Beaches. A NIDA acting graduate ('16) for stage, Tom most recently has performed in AUSTRALIAN OPEN (KXT), TWO TWENTY SOMETHINGS DECIDE NEVER TO BE STRESSED ABOUT ANYTHING EVER AGAIN. EVER (Melbourne Fringe), Belvoir's TUESDAY (25a), and A TASTE OF HONEY and SHE RODE HORSES LIKE THE STOCK EXCHANGE (KXT). Tom has also featured across multiple short films since graduating. As a playwright Tom’s work was recognised in 2012 when he attended ATYP’s National Studio. Tom has been mentored by playwrights Jane Bodie, Lachlan Philpott and Ola Animashawun of London’s Royal Court. In 2013 Tom was a Fresh Ink ATYP mentee and wrote for Griffin Theatre’s 24hour Playwriting Project.  It was when NIDA actors performed his work that Tom knew he wanted to act again. He successfully auditioned for NIDA and in his first year was also the inaugural Writer in Residence for ATYP. His work has been published by Currency Press, appeared on Melbourne and Sydney stages, broadcast on ABC’s Radio National and adapted for film.

Music Matters

Just a reminder of a great opportunity for our Year 5 and 6 boys to be involved in Drama at the College. Our Junior Drama Ensemble rehearses in the Drama Room every Friday at 7.30 am. It will be on this Friday. Please email me for details or just turn up on Friday morning. It’s a really fun way to meet other like-minded students and start your Friday with some fun.

Congratulations to the Senior Concert Band on their performance at the Award Ceremony yesterday. It was great to hear the boys in “public” again. Well done to their Ensemble Director, Stella Talati, for maintaining such a great standard and interest during the pandemic.

Open Day will see a number of the Ensembles perform in a COVID-safe way. Stay tuned for details coming in an email soon.
