House Competition

2021 House Captains - Ryan, Josh, Alia & Charlotte

Throughout Term 1 2021, we  have had many amazing opportunities to spread house spirit and organise exciting house-related activities. Some highlights have included the BSC Swimming Carnival, Harmony day and Ride2School day.

Harmony Day

On Wednesday March 17, Brunswick Secondary College celebrated Harmony Day. It was a huge success, and it was great to see so many people wearing casual clothes and donating to the Asylum Seekers Resource Centre. A highlight included the round robin European Handball tournament that was held during lunchtime in the gym. Those who played had a fantastic time and earned some points for their houses.

Ride to school day

Friday the 19th of March was Ride to School Day. It was incredible to see over 170 students riding their bikes, skateboards and scooters on this day. Those who rode to school on this day also earned some house points that go towards the final tally! The scores were very close with only 5 students being the difference between the houses that came first and last. Read more about the event in this issue - Ready to Roll - including student comment.

We are excited to announce Cagaar came out on top with 45 people riding to school on this day. Congratulations Cagaar!

Points

As the House Captain team, we are currently working on a school-wide house points system that incorporates all aspects of school life - from sports carnivals to theatre competitions and everything in between. We are hoping to have this system up and running by early next term.

in the meantime, we are excited to announce the current 2021 House Points Leaderboard:

Congratulations to everyone who participated in any house competition across the term, we hope you had fun!

As you can see, ORO is currently holding the lead. But don’t fret Lanse, Abyad and Cagaar - there is still heaps of time to try to get your house to the top of the Leaderboard because of all the exciting events and opportunities we’ve got planned for everyone next term.  These events include (of course!) the second big sporting event of the year, the annual BSC Athletics Carnival, happening the first Wednesday of Term 2! We hope to see everyone there, participating, and cheering on their house.

As always, if you’ve got any questions or suggestions for the House Captains, don’t hesitate to come and speak to one of us.  We would love to hear from you!

What a wonderful end to first term for the Houses of our school!

This year marks major change with student leaders granted much more responsibility and agency for our House System.

Your House Captains have stepped up to their role in a prepared and hard-working manner. Their involvement in organising events and building house spirit and culture has been impeccable.

Ryan, Joshua, Alia and Charlotte can be very proud of themselves given what they have achieved in such a short period of time this term!
