Message from the Principal

Student Voice & Student Leadership

As we conclude the first term of the school year I would like to commend the student leaders for facilitating opportunities for students to have input into the school improvements they would like to see.   Each of the Year Level Representatives have posted surveys on their Year Level Microsoft Teams pages and a public SRC meeting was held last week at lunchtime for any students to attend.   Feedback was submitted on teaching and learning, the school grounds, school safety and school culture.    These conversations will continue between the student leaders and their peers (students) and between student leaders and the school leadership team (staff) in terms of what changes can be actioned.    The use of Microsoft Teams to gain feedback from year levels is a great example of how the tool we used for remote learning can continue to be used alongside face to face teaching.

I also commend our School Captains for the work they have done this term in leading the Senior Executive Council.  Tara and Paul’s work has been very impressive.

Farewells

This term we farewelled two valued staff members, Phil Spiller (Teacher - English)  and  John Roberts (Student Wellbeing).  Both Phil and John have contributed decades of service to the public education system and will be missed by staff and students alike.

We wish them both well as they move to the next chapter of their lives.

Open Night & School Tours

We have been very grateful that we have been able to hold events or foresee we can hold events in Term 2, whilst still being mindful of covid control measures, such as sanitation and density guidelines.

We are currently planning our Open Night on Thursday 29 April which is our showcase for prospective 2022 families.  This follows our weekly Tuesday tours which have been held throughout first term and have been fully booked.   This shows great interest in our school.

Herbert Smith Freehills   Mentor Program

We are looking forward to our selected Year 9 students participating in the Herbert Smith Freehills Mentoring Program next term.   The students will travel with Jennie Easson to Collins Street every second Friday for a program run by the trained mentors who work at the law firm,  Herbert Smith Freehills .  We are extremely fortunate to be the only school in Victoria which have this opportunity with Herbert Smith Freehills and we are fortunate that Jennie Easson initiated the contact whilst teaching at another school and brought the connection across to us, where it has stayed.

Senior Production

Our senior students in the production have been busy rehearsing the show - The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.  Details on ticketing will be released at the beginning of next term and we look forward to seeing a BSC production performed again.

School Council 2021

We welcome new School Council members, Scott Brain and Peter Brunt to the School Council team.  Scott and Paul join parents Sasha Briseno, Elise Edwards, Colleen Farrell, Shahab Kasmai, Nicole Lawrence, Rachael Ploenges  and Paula Thomson currently completing their 2 year terms as council members.

Max Mckenzie Fitzpatrick (Year 10) and Anushka Sharma (Year 9) have been elected by the student body as Student Representatives on School Council (2 year term). Max and Anushka take the places of previous student representatives, Tara Dennison and Paul Ting, who continue to serve on School Council in their capacity as School Captains.

On behalf of the wider school community,  we thank all those that have made the commitment to serve on School Council over the coming year.

School Council Office Bearers

The new School Council met for the first time on March 31, with the nomination and appointment of office bearers conducted at this meeting. We congratulate and heartily thank Rachael Ploenges as shecommences her second year as School Council President, Paula Thomson, who commences her second year as Vice President and Elise Edwards, who commences her second year as Treasurer.

Term Break

This term has been a tiring one for both students and staff, adjusting back to normal school after the year that was 2020.   It is important that we all take the time to rest and replenish during these holidays.  Enjoy the break and take care.
