REMINDER TO ALL YEAR 12 STUDENTS

Timely applications for VTAC close soon.  We have been working with all Year 12 students to have their course applications or 2020 planning completed by the end of this term.  Students have been working on transition plans in Connect over the past six weeks, and most students have completed their registration, application and payment.  Well done to all students who have been so proactive in engaging with this process.

Students who are not applying for courses next year should have attended an appointment with me to discuss plans.  I will be following up with students who have not submitted a VTAC application, or met with me, in Term Four.

Planning on studying teaching??  Year 12s applying for teaching courses are reminded that you MUST complete your CASPer to be eligible.  There are only two test dates left prior to first round offers in December.  Go to www.takecasper.com to register for your session!

For those students who have missed the goal of completing the VTAC process before the end of term, I can be contacted via email for assistance over the September school holidays.  My email address is burgess.karen.a@edumail.vic.gov.au – please provide your name, your query, your mobile phone number and the best time to make contact with you.  Please allow 24-48 hour response time, especially over weekends.

YEAR 9 CAREER DISCOVERY - MORRISBY

Year 9 students who consented to the Morrisby Career Exploration program should now have completed their online assessment and received their report.  Hard copies of reports will be delivered to the school early in Term Four.  In weeks One and Two next term, every student who completed Morrisby will have an appointment with a careers practitioner to discuss their report. Appointments will appear as an event on Compass, and parents are welcome to attend their child’s appointment.  Please note appointment times cannot be moved or changed due to the number of students we need to fit into the allocated days.

The Morrisby Discovery Tool and e-portfolio will be maintained by students over the next three years as they plan their future career pathway and transition from high school.

Work Experience 2020 - information for current Year 9s

In 2020 our current Year 9 students will have the opportunity to do one week of work experience as part of their careers program.  Students will have time to investigate their options, complete their resume and arrangement forms during term one and early term two.  The dates for Year 10 Work Experience in 2020 will be Monday May 11 - Friday May 15.  All Year 10 students will be expected to be out on placement during that week.

VTAC PORTFOLIOS AND INTERVIEWS TO PREPARE FOR??

The SNAP team is pleased to offer your senior students the opportunity to participate in an exciting design workshop in the September school holidays.

Now in its eighth year, Ready Set Design is a series of three workshops for students in Years 11 and 12 where they can learn about careers and tertiary programs in design, develop their folio, and practice their interview and presentation skills.

Registrations are now open for workshop 3 (Interview Bytes), which will be held on Wednesday 25 September at RMIT’s City campus.

The Interview Bytes workshop will give students the opportunity to hear from a panel of RMIT design teachers and current students about what to expect during a program interview. The panel will share their experience as interviewers and interviewees, and discuss the kinds of questions students may be asked, as well as some techniques for presenting their folio to the interview panel.

To register their attendance, students must visit our event page, select the workshop they wish to attend, and provide their details. Students aged under 18 years of age will also need to return a consent form signed by their parent or carer.
