Seniors 'de-stress'

A well-earned chance to relax

On Tuesday 20th of August, Year 11’s and Year 12’s held our inaugural ‘De-Stress Day’.

It was a fantastic opportunity for Senior School students to relax and take a break from studying for VCE and VCAL. There were fun activities for everyone to take part in: an escape room; mindfulness activities; a Giant Kahoot; and a screening of “The Sea of Life”, a documentary that informed students about the threats to marine ecosystems but also the solutions required to solve the issue of collapsing ocean ecosystems. It was fantastic to have a guest speaker from the Climate Save Movement talk to us about the film, too.

The Escape Room was a big hit, and Jane (one of our School Captains) said that the students who participated “communicated with one another and got to make new friends with people from other year levels. It was also great to see them relieving all of their stress and laughing happily as they managed to escape together”.

The mindfulness activities were also very popular. One of our School Captains, Eliza, managed the mindfulness activities, and she said it was an opportunity for “people to talk with people that they might not usually talk to, and connect with other year levels”.

And the August bad weather held off long enough so that we could enjoy the Food Trucks and eat outside. At Northcote High School we focus on hard work and academic outcomes, so we really wanted the Year 11s and Year 12s to take full advantage of an opportunity to de-stress and have a good time - and I think we were successful!
