Novice Band on tour
Last week the Novice and Concert bands each went on a band tour to local primary schools.
Novice Band performed for Westgarth and Northcote Primary schools, and Concert Band performed for Wales Street and Thornbury Primary schools. The students demonstrated their instruments and the bands performed a variety of music to some very enthusiastic students. We hope some of these students will join the music program next year when they come to Northcote High School.
On August 26th, the Symphonic Band travelled to the Hawthorn Town Hall to perform at the
Victorian School Music Festival. Overall, it was an amazing experience allowing us
to perform in a professional environment, listen to other bands as well as become
closer with our fellow band members. We played Shattered, Australian Up-Country Tune and The Pines of Rome. After performing, we then received a tutorial and feedback from one of the adjudicators about our performance and what we could improve. It was a great opportunity to prepare us for the South Street competition two weeks later.
On September 3rd, we went to South Street, a competition for schools all around
Victoria in Ballarat. After a long drive, the Symphonic Band arrived at the venue
and played same repertoire set with the addition of Stevie Wonder in Concert. We
performed well in front of parents, judges and other schools. Immediately after our
performance came the results. Although we did not place, we all knew that we had
worked hard and had done our best. We were proud of our achievements and have fond
memories of the friendships we made in the process.
