Green Team Camp

Planting trees for the future

Last Thursday 12 September,  Green Team set off towards the Strathbogie ranges where an old state school now turned campsite lies. We left at 1pm and arrived at around 4:30pm. We set up our beds and began preparing for Friday. On Friday we visited the site where we would be planting trees for the Regent Honeyeater Project, the activities we did at the site were all a part of the 2019 Planet Ark National Tree Day for schools. Planting trees was hard work and we quickly began sweating underneath the sun. Only a few of the students had the idea to wear shorts underneath their pants. By the end of the day we had planted a multitude of trees, ready to grow. By the end of the day everyone’s muscles were sore but the day was a success and we all got the hang of things fairly quickly.

On Saturday we left the campsite at 9 and headed off to the monthly Violet Town market where we all split up and took in the energetic chaos that is a market. We spent about an hour there and then headed back home to Northcote. Overall the camp was, in my mind, a success, and a great time.

Get active!

If you are interested in further opportunities beyond school, all are welcome to assist in the Regent Honeyeater project: go to www.regenthoneyeater.org.au and Andie will sign you up. The Green Team planted 100 trees on this camp which Andie told us would hopefully live up to 400 years! A further 70 volunteers from all around Victoria were arriving the next day. Hopefully, some of these pics may inspire you!  At school, you are welcome to come join our Green Team meeting in C1 every Monday lunchtime.
