Breaksea House News

Breaksea House girls have all settled into 2021 with style and class. We welcomed two new boarders to GSG, Holly Blechynden in Year Eleven and Ella Main in Year Ten. These young ladies have quickly become valued members of the house and we love the enthusiasm they bring to so many activities. In addition, we have a wonderful new In-Residence Supervisor working in Breaksea House. Ella Sloss has brought warmth, care, enthusiasm and fun to the boarding house and the students have enjoyed getting to know her.

Middle School Academic Support

Throughout this term we have focused on building on the GSG value of care and compassion and demonstrating this in many different ways within the house. There are a group of seniors who are showing their care for Middle School boarders by volunteering each week to provide academic and organisational tutoring. The Breaksea girls currently involved in this initiative include, Karis Cristinelli, Jasmine Butterworth, Bree-anna Burton, Grace Howard, Abigail Winyard, Isabelle Plowman, Jasmine Bradshaw, Kira Pearce, Kate Squibb, Rosie Page, Brianna Harris, Bethany Robertson, Holly Blechynden, Madison Smart and Ava Smith.

TAFE and Workplace Learning

It is exciting to see a number of students begin their future pathways through workplace learning and TAFE. This year Stephanie Lamont is working at the Albany Visitors Centre in town, Grace Howard at RSM Consulting and Elisa Crook at Albany Regional Day Care Centre. We wish them all the best in their chosen endeavours.

Gardening

You might notice a quickly growing garden if you visit Breaksea over the next few months. Ella Sloss and a large group of girls have embraced the Woolworths garden promotion and we are growing over 98 plants currently. They are nearly ready to be transferred into larger garden beds and we are excited to see what will eventuate from our green-thumb attempts.

In the next few weeks, new outdoor furniture will arrive for Breaksea’s back area and the girls are working with staff to create an inviting space for work, play and eating.

Year Twelve Ball

A clear highlight of Term One has been the Year Twelve Ball. Last week there was a flurry of beautician visits, hair appointments, spray tans, high heel wearing preparation and last-minute purchases as the girls prepared for the big event. All of the girls of Breaksea and Endeavour went down to the Centennial Stadium to show their support for the Year Twelve girls and thoroughly enjoyed watching the styles and sparkles on the red carpet.

A lovely initiative by some boarding parents this year was for them to join together for dinner down at Loft 22 after their Year Twelve children had entered the Ball. Please check out the photos of the evening.

Year Ten Camps

Last Friday we farewelled Ella Main, Rosie Page, Ava Smith and Natalie Heron on the Leeuwin voyage and then on Monday the rest of the Year Ten girls set off for Outward Bound in Walpole. There were some nervous wobbles, but we hope they have all had a fabulous time away from the normal routine.

Breaksea Dinner

Tuesday this week, we enjoyed Taco Tuesday in Breaksea with Mrs Emma Franklin joining us for dinner. It was a lovely opportunity to have dinner informally with the Deputy Principal and chat about many different aspects of school and social life.

REACH Leave

Thank you to all those girls and families who are getting weekend leave in by Thursday evening. This is really helping staff have the weekends organised in advance. We also encourage every person to either accept or decline the recreation opportunities for each weekend. Every weekend, there are numerous opportunities for activities for the young people in boarding and we encourage everyone to try and be involved in at least one activity.

Please remember that I am always available for a chat or question. So feel free to ring or send an email if you would like to make contact.
