Anchorage House News

Welcome to a new school year for Anchorage families, especially those with a child boarding for the first time. The boys are becoming familiar with the routine of the boarding house and their school environment. They are also venturing into the community through sport, town visits and recreational activities. For both children and parents, the transition to live away from home is not always easy. Boarders have been building connections, making new friendships and developing independence. We are pleased to see their growth in confidence and looking out for one another.

Middle School Camps

In the first half of Term One, the boys have been involved in many activities, including a camp for each year group.

  • Year Seven - Camp Kennedy
  • Year Eight - Camp Quaranup
  • Year Nine - Margaret River

These camps are a great opportunity for boarders to build connections between students as well as an opportunity to develop resilience and personal values.

REACH

Parents are encouraged to utilise the REACH Boarding app. It is an efficient and effective method to handle leave for each boarder. Leave requests can be completed electronically by the parent via the app or on computer. Please ensure weekend leave is submitted by Thursday evening for approval and processing. If you need to add or delete hosts, please contact us via dianne.franzinelli@gsg.wa.edu.au

Pizza Dinner

The Anchorage boys have had some bonding time over pizza just across the road from the Boarding houses.  I think it's safe to say this time was enjoyed by all.

Woodwork

The Year Seven group have been given the opportunity to do woodwork with Mr Peter Colgate every Wednesday after school, working on a project for the rest of the term. The boys always enjoy spending time in woodwork and Mr Colgate is a wonderful mentor for the boys. This will be offered to the Year Eight and Nine groups in the terms to follow. We thank Mr Colgate for his time and effort in offering this programme.

Mr Colgate has taken on a mentoring role in Anchorage with our In-Residence Supervisor, Caiden Henderson.  Mr Colgate was a previous Head of Boarding and worked in boarding for ten years at GSG. Prior to that, he worked at Hale School in Perth.  We appreciate his support and expertise in the professional development of our new supervisors.

Birthdays

This term we have celebrated a few birthdays. Kaleb Germain celebrated his birthday before his arrival to boarding on 19 January.  Zane Cairns, Owen Baxter-Holland and Travis Goodall celebrated their birthdays in February. William Glasby and Louis Ford celebrated their birthdays in March. Happy birthday boys!
