From the Boarding Captains

This week we had our first boarding chapel for the year with the topic being the first boarding value; care and compassion. The values of care and compassion are values we exercise on a daily basis. In the boarding house, we all show care and compassion by lending a helpful hand and looking out for one another, whether it's checking in on your friends or giving a hand to assist someone else in need. Showing practical care and compassion can really help to make them feel better as well as yourself. You know you are making a difference in someone’s day when you take time out of your day to help them. So, remember to just check in and show some compassion and care to your fellow boarders.

As the Year Ten girls went off to Outward Bound and the Leeuwin this week, the rest of the seniors were able to have a shared dinner over tacos, with Mrs Franklin kindly coming and joining us for dinner. On Sunday nights we have begun having whole boarding dinners outside the Dining Hall to connect and spend time with all the fellow boarders. This is a great way to have a conversation with students from different age groups and expand the sense of care and compassion amongst our boarding community.

This year the boys in Eclipse have had a fairly strong start to the year. It was good to get back into the swing of things. The Year Tens have had a smooth transition into senior boarding bringing with them a boost of energy, which has influenced all members of the house. The Year Elevens, though sporting a much smaller year group than previously, are coping well. The Year Twelves are preparing for their final year of school and enjoying the various pathways for study or workplace learning.

This past week the Year Tens have been on camp. So, with the help of Mrs Spinks, the rest of us hosted Mr Sawle for a BBQ dinner. The dinner was great and Josh, with the help of Will and Quinten, cooked us up a tasty meal. Mr Sawle imparted some wisdom about what it means to be a man in today’s society. It was a night enjoyed by all.

The Ball was cool, everyone looked very smart all dressed up.  I look forward to spending the rest of the year with this group of boys.
