Parent Teacher Interviews

Burrendah Primary School values close communication between classroom teachers and parents. To help support this process, parent/teacher interviews will take place between Monday 26th, and Thursday 29th June for most classes.  As advertised in the school newsletter our school will be closed from lunchtime (12:00pm) on Wednesday 28th June to allow staff additional time to meet with parents to discuss the end of semester reports which will be available on Connect by Friday 23rd June.

Information on how to book parent-teacher interviews can be found in the Library section of Connect (Parent/Teacher Interviews – Instruction Guide 2023) or as per the paper copy sent home yesterday. If you have any queries, please contact Reception on 9266 6200.

Parents are required to sign and return the form stored in the Library section of Connect (Parent/Teacher Interviews – Early Closure Form) or as per paper copy sent home yesterday to indicate whether they will be either picking up their child from school, granting permission for senior students (Year 5&6) to walk home, senior students walking home their brother/sister or a request for us to supervise your child at school. Please note there will be no traffic wardens at the school crossings when students are dismissed.

On Wednesday 28th, Camp Australia will be available after 12:00pm. For bookings, select the following link to their website: https://www.campaustralia.com.au/schools/72c3.

We will provide supervision for those children remaining at school, although they will not be participating in the normal school timetable. If you intend on picking up your child sometime after 12:00pm and before 3:00pm you will need to sign your son/daughter out at Reception.

Note: No child will be dismissed at 12:00 pm on Wednesday 28th June unless they have returned the permission form below. The school canteen will not be open in Week 10.

Room 7 – Staffing for Term 2 - 4

Due to Ms Turvey going on maternity leave from Thursday 15th June, Mr Ellis will now take the class from Monday to Friday. This is to ensure the continuity of the student’s learning and maintain the relationship the students already have with Mr Ellis.

Room 11 – Staffing for Semester 2

Given that Mrs McLay will be resigning at the end of this term, Miss Toms will be taking her place from Term 3 to 4 on Mondays. Miss Toms has worked at our school in a number of positions, and we are very pleased that she is available for this position.

Interschool Winter Carnival

Congratulations to all teams who participated in yesterday’s Interschool Winter Carnival. All students typically displayed sportsmanship and represented Burrendah PS with pride.

A special thank you to Mr Ellis and Mrs Bain for organising this event which ran very smoothly.

P&C Funding

I’d like to thank the P&C for funding the re-establishment of the basketball practice area outside Swan Block. This project has also enhanced the physical environment and cleaned up an area that was quite shabby.

The P&C has also recently funded the purchasing of 1800 decodable readers, which are currently been accessioned through our Library.

At our recent P&C meeting, a group of Year 5 students presented a request for wobble stools for Year 5 students. This was a fantastic example of real-world learning and student voice. And as a result, the P&C granted their request for 25 wobble stools, which are to be shared across all Year 5 classes.

 Under Cover Area

The new undercover area is now open. Room 21 (Years 3 & 4) moved in on Tuesday and have already settled into their new environment. Mrs Bain will be running her Junior Physical Education program from this facility, particularly in winter. She also has a new storeroom in this building for some of her equipment. Although we thought this area may be too small for a whole school assembly, it now appears that there is room to squeeze in all students without their chairs. Given this, we will probably use this area for faction assemblies and the older undercover area for Community Assemblies.

The basketball court has been resurfaced and provides more space than originally thought for the seniors to practice basketball.

Students are currently investigating a name for the undercover area and Darren Hutchens (Community Artist) has been asked to provide a quote to create a mural inside the building that illustrates our Positive Behaviour Support – 4 R’s.
