Genuine Artefact

An email was received recently regarding a discovery in the Transport Museum at Glenorchy. At the back of one of their sheds an old ‘Train Departure Board’ was noted  – the board had its origins at old Hobart Railway Station – the site of the current ABC building and on it is featured a stop at St Virgils!

From Day 1 the bulk of the students travelled to Austins Ferry by train. This mode of student movement continued until it was replaced by Cresswell  Coaches.

Can anyone enlighten me as to when the train service was discontinued? (Graeme Rainbow, grainbow@stvirgils.tas.edu.au)
