From the President

David Mazengarb

Dear Old Virgillians,

Since our last newsletter I was pleased to be invited to the Austins Ferry campus for the water carrier naming ceremony.  As an Old Virgilian I must say how impressed I was with the ceremony and the very real and conscious efforts of the College, students and staff at all levels to embrace diversity and opportunity for all persons and in particular those representing the First Nations. The school and community leaders who have not only led but enabled this vision to become a reality are to be commended.

Such initiatives positively demonstrate how far the College and its community have progressed over the last 20 years or more.  It has prompted me, as President, to now think more inclusively as President of the OVA and take to the Committee some recommendations about how the Old Virgillians can also more fully embrace the important themes of inclusiveness and diversity and to demonstrate this through our actions.

As I have previously flagged, your Committee is currently tasked with a review of our Constitution.  The members of your Committee will also be seeking consultation with you on possible changes to the Constitution and I am hopefully this will enable us be more responsive and engaging with all Old Virgillians. A great opportunity for consultation is through the various lunches and informal gatherings (including Melbourne in August).  I am hopeful more of us can connect – would you please let Graeme know if you can meet with us on the Melbourne occasion as it will be important to advise the venue of numbers well ahead.

In the interim we will be seeking every opportunity to work with the College through the Principal.

I hope all Old Virgillians have a safe and warm winter with friends and family where possible.

David
