Aboriginal Education

We recently acknowledged Reconciliation Week at Camden High School, participating in a number of activities including assemblies, Yarning Circles and a visit to Camden South Public School with some of our deadly young leaders to share our cultural knowledge in traditional weaving practices.

This years theme, be a ‘Voice for Generations’ also led to some pretty interesting conversations about the upcoming ‘Voice’ referendum and we have enjoyed educating ourselves on a variety of different viewpoints on the concept of a First Nations voice being enshrined in Australia’s constitution. What is a referendum? How does it work? Why are we having one? Why aren’t First Nations people already represented in the constitution and why change it now? Do all First Nations people support a voice to Parliament? What would change in our lives if people vote yes?

If you would like to continue the discussion at home and find out more about the referendum for a First Nations voice to parliament our friends at the GO Foundation and Western Sydney University have put together a guidebook on the topic that includes some interesting short videos.
