Magis report

The State Final of the 2023 Plain English Speaking Awards (PESA) was held last Saturday. The primary aim of the Award is to encourage and maintain the best use of clear and effective English. Meg Derbyshire (Year 11) delivered an 8-minute speech on animation as an art form and a three-minute impromptu speech on the topic ‘fish out of water’. Meg was highly commended on delivering an original and engaging talk, receiving honours for both presentation and matter. We congratulate Meg on an outstanding achievement.

Term 3 is set to be another exciting and busy time for Magis! Competitions and events galore: House Challenges: including Creative Writing, STEM, and Music; WADL Debating; FameLab Academy and Curtin Science Day; UWA Hackathon – Shark Tank Young Entrepreneurs; Creative Edge; Tournament of Minds; British Parliamentary Debating; Shakespeare Club; Model UN; various academic seminars and student mentoring; the Global Round of the World Scholars Cup… to name but a few. With SO MUCH happening it is important that students read Teams notices carefully and attend all practice sessions, development seminars and team meetings. Most current competitions are team events, so individual commitment to a group effort is vitally important.
