Across the Principal's Desk
Welcome to the second half of our school year. I hope everyone had a relaxing and safe break. We had a great deal happening on the calendar in the first semester, which provided so many opportunities for our students in and out of the classroom.
We’ve had swimming and athletic carnivals, as well as many other sporting opportunities with inter-school and House sports. We’ve had School Council elections and strong student voice with our representatives, as well as a very active Student Representative Council organising events across our school.
We’ve had the Song Makers’ workshop during which our talented students produced their own songs. We’ve had cooking extravaganzas in our Food Tech Centre. We’ve had Good Friday Appeal Fundraisers and Anzac Day ceremonies run by our students.
We’ve had our Rural Youth Ambassadors (Lochy, Praneel, Jet) represent our school at state level in admirable fashion. We’ve had staff versus students matches in a variety of sports. We’ve had students represent our school in specialised Science programs at the Ballarat Tech School.
We’ve had Tyla Armeni win the Rural Achievers Rising Star Award and Annabelle Hudson win the State Final to become the Junior Show Ambassador. We’ve had Ella Kerr win Triple at the Victorian State Schools track and Field Championships.
We’ve had our Alumni Program engaging with former students who have returned to our school to inspire our current students. We’ve had students attend leadership conferences to learn skills in leading that will benefit them for life. Our young artists have ‘wowed’ with the Vegemite artwork. We’ve had school camps and excursions galore and guitars made in Science (yes, real and functional guitars).
We’ve had our Breakfast Club run throughout the year, so that students have food in their stomachs to assist their brains to learn. We’ve had Man Cave and Flourish Girls programs run to help our students be emotionally literate, so that we can understand and help each other.
We’ve had visitors from the Department of Education visit us, who have seen our students and classes in action and they were very complimentary about the culture of our school.
This is not all of the action! There was so much more… And all of it happening in conjunction with our classroom learning. A highlight for me has been our General Assemblies, at which our students have shared the details of their experiences with the whole school – student-run and student-led. We’re looking forward to hearing much more as it all unfolds in Semester Two.
