Get in Tune with Betty Liang: Our Teacher of Chinese and Music

G'day to our vibrant school community! Allow me to introduce myself — I am Betty Liang, your Chinese and Music teacher, and today, I'm pulling back the curtains to share a bit about the series of fortunate events that brought me here to Scoresby. Buckle up for a fun-filled journey that intertwines language, music, and a dash of badminton!

Hailing from Guangzhou, China, my career path was not always so straightforward. With a Bachelor's degree in British and American Literature under my belt, I dabbled in everything from supplier management at Citi Bank to screenwriting for Guangzhou TV. It was a bit like trying on different hats to find the perfect fit, and with time, I realized that teaching was my hat of choice. It is here, amidst chalk dust and lesson plans, that I found my true calling – guiding young minds on their path to knowledge. So, I packed my bags and headed to the University of Melbourne for my Master's in Education.

Now, with a teaching career in Australia spanning nine illustrious years, I've had the privilege of contributing to the academic growth of students in Brighton, Camberwell, and even Italy (yes, you read that right!). I've worked with VCAA for examination assessment, and mentored VCE Chinese teachers at RMIT International School in Beijing, sharpening my skills in curriculum building along the way.

But life isn’t all about teaching! When I’m not in the classroom, I morph into an independent singer-songwriter. I wrote my first song at 13, and now, my original songs can be found on Spotify, YouTube, Soundcloud and QQ Music, resonating with listeners around the world. I also channel my love for sports through badminton and have the medals to prove my prowess! But don't worry, I usually keep my competitive streak off when I am not near a badminton court.

Outside these interests, I'm a fan of stand-up comedy, new culinary experiences, traveling, and learning new things (like coding and psychology!). After all, I firmly believe that life is a never-ending journey of learning.

In a nutshell, I’m thrilled to be part of our diverse community here at Scoresby. Together, we'll embrace learning, overcome challenges, and share a few chuckles along the way. Stay tuned for more fun facts and classroom adventures with yours truly.

Until then, keep those creative juices flowing, and remember: Learning is not a race, but a journey to be enjoyed. See you in class!
