Classroom News - Year 6

Canberra Excursion

The Canberra Excursion last week was busy, educational and fun. Such a great experience for students to visit our Nation’s capital, and learn all that it has to offer.  The student's behaviour was exemplary.  They were eager to learn and they asked very inquisitive questions at each venue.

We would like to say a BIG thank you to parent volunteers Jodie Kratz, Mike Stace, Jacqueline Miller and Tammy Czapracki who helped the teachers to supervise the students at venues and help with meals and bedtime at Canberra Park. We were also very fortunate that teachers Mr Cain and Mrs Cameron were available to help ensure our excursion was a success.

The following piece of writing is a recount of our Canberra excursion written by Lachlan Bradford.

Last week Year 6 went to Canberra for our yearly excursion. The drive down on Monday was very boring but with a few stops we got there safely.

On Tuesday our first stop was Mount Ainslie. When we got there it had snowed a bit so everyone was throwing snowballs at each other. When we got back on the bus we had to rush to the National Film and Sound Archive. When we got there we went in this cinema where a lady talked to us about how they used to film things. We spent about 30-45 minutes there and then we had to go to the National Art Gallery. In the Art Gallery there were some really old and cool pictures. Our last stop for that day was the Telstra Tower and High Court. My favourite thing for that day was the Telstra Tower.

The next day on Wednesday, our first stop was the Mint. It was where they make all the money. Our next stop was one of the best stops. It was the AIS (Australian Institute of Sport). When we got there we went in this big room that had lots of fun sports like wheelchair racing, cycling, a soccer kicking thing that tells you how hard you kick and many more games. About 30 minutes later a man took us around and showed us a bit of AIS. After that we had time for sport. We played a big game of soccer with five balls. About 30 minutes later it was time to go to the National Museum of Australia. This is where some really old things were. My favourite bit was seeing Phar Lap's heart. Our next stop was my favourite stop for the whole trip. It was the Australian War Memorial. When we went through all the war sections I found the Vietnam section the best because it had planes hanging from the roof and tanks down below.

On our last day which was Thursday, we firstly went to the National Capital Exhibition. Then we went to Parliament House and we saw Barnaby Joyce who had a quick talk to us. But my favourite was Questacon. Year 6 went around in groups to see everything. The last thing we did at Questacon was the drop. We had to drop, which was so high it was scary at first but cool after.

The next day on Friday we had to wake up at 5.30am to have breakfast and get ready to go home. We stopped at Sydney for morning tea and Muswellbrook for Maccas. A couple of hours later we were home safely.

Operetta

Congratulations to Year 6 for a very high standard of rehearsals for roles in the Operetta this year. A very exciting time! It is encouraged for the children to learn their lines during the holidays so we can start rehearsing early in Term 4.

Holidays

We hope you all have a happy and healthy holiday and return back to us safely, ready for a fruitful Term 4.
