Message from 2018 Music Captains
Hello all and welcome to the first term of 2018. We are Alexandra, Cameron, and Benji – Koonung’s Music Captains for 2018.
Across the three of us, we play a large variety of instruments in different genres and participate in multiple bands across Koonung’s music department. This year, we are excited to be able to work with all of the instrumental teachers to encourage the growth of our individual students and their capability in group settings. We encourage any new and returning students to enrol in the music program and join some of our College bands – including the Concert and Swing bands, String and Guitar ensembles, Choir, and the Percussion group. We hope to coordinate many performances across the school calendar and encourage as many students as possible to both participate and watch others perform. Most importantly, we are all excited to work closely with the teachers and students, assisting them to increase capacity for leadership, teamwork, and communication skills – all important skills both in music and in life.
We look forward to working with you and having a great year as music captains!
Alexandra Forman, Cameron Owens, and Benji Chung
Message from 2018 Drama Captains
Hi, we are Ryan and Kate and we’re the Drama Captains for 2018.
Both of us are been heavily involved in the performing arts community of Koonung over the past 5 years. Ryan has been involved in
school plays and Kate, in both musicals and plays and you will see us both later this year in the 2018 school play;
Norse Mythology Ragnaplosion.
We are both excited to be working with both the leadership team and Arts department this year to continue helping drama flourish within school; as it has been doing over the last couple of years. Drama will be bigger and better this year, with plenty of new things to look forward to. In Term 2, we will be hosting our annual Talent Quest, wherein all ages, talents and abilities are given the opportunity to perform any sort of musical, comedy or dance act they choose. We will also be introducing a brand new performance space with new opportunities later this year (exciting news to come!)
We encourage everyone to get involved this year, as many opportunities will arise but it’s only in your power to get involved. Whether, this is offstage or onstage, we encourage you all to contribute somehow to the Arts department this year, so you can help us with the continual growth of performance and artistry in our school.
There is still the opportunity to get involved in the College musical (The Drowsy Chaperone) with backstage crew applications becoming available later this year.
We are working on so many exciting things and cannot wait to include you all!
See you all soon!
Peace and regards,
Kate Gerraty and Ryan Hook
